How to Create Custom Animations in PowerPoint
Custom animations allow you to control how text, images, and objects move on a slide beyond the default animation presets. Here’s how to create and fine-tune them:
1. Select the Object to Animate
- Open your PowerPoint presentation.
- Click on the text, image, shape, or object you want to animate.
2. Apply an Animation Effect
- Go to the Animations tab.
- Click the Add Animation button.
- Choose from the following categories:
- Entrance (e.g., Fade, Fly In, Zoom – makes an object appear).
- Emphasis (e.g., Spin, Pulse, Change Color – highlights an object).
- Exit (e.g., Disappear, Fly Out – removes an object).
- Motion Paths (custom movement along a path).
3. Customize the Animation
- Click Animation Pane (in the Advanced Animation group) to view and control multiple animations.
- Adjust the Start option:
- On Click – Starts when you click.
- With Previous – Starts at the same time as the previous animation.
- After Previous – Starts immediately after the previous animation finishes.
- Modify the Duration (speed of animation) and Delay (wait time before animation starts).
4. Create a Custom Motion Path Animation
- Select the object.
- Go to the Animations tab > Click Add Animation > Scroll down to Motion Paths.
- Choose a preset motion path (e.g., Line, Arc, Curve) or click Custom Path to draw your own.
- Adjust the path using the drag handles.
5. Managing Multiple Animations
- Use the Animation Pane to reorder, delete, or fine-tune animations.
- Click Effect Options to change directions, sequences, or specific settings.
- Click Preview to see how the animations play out.
