Can you tell me about a time you experienced a setback on a project? How did you handle it?

In my last role as a site engineer, I was working on a project where we had to build a new parking lot for a local business. We were almost done with construction when we discovered an underground pipe that would need to be repaired before we could continue building. This meant we needed to halt construction until the pipe was fixed.

I immediately called the client to let them know about the delay. Then, I gathered all of my team members together to discuss our options. After some discussion, we decided to hire another contractor to fix the pipe while we continued working on other parts of the project. The client understood the situation and appreciated that we handled it quickly.
