Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on Wednesday(19th Jan 2022) launched “Saa₹thi” – a mobile app on investor education in Mumbai. The new app aims to create awareness among investors about the basic concepts of the securities market.
 
Additionally, the app will also explain about KYC process, trading and settlement, Mutual Funds (MF), recent market developments, investor grievances redressal mechanism, etc, the market regulator said in a press release.
 
Launching the app, SEBI chairman Ajay Tyagi said, “This mobile app is yet another initiative of SEBI with a view to empowering investors with knowledge about securities market. With the recent surge in individual investors entering the market, and more importantly a large proportion of trading being mobile phone based, this app will be helpful in easily accessing the relevant information. I am sure that in coming times this App will be popular among the investors especially the young ones.”
 
The SEBI "Saa₹thi" mobile app is available in Hindi and English. The Android and iOS versions of the App can be downloaded from Play Store and App Store respectively..

Padma Shri recipient and founder of the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre Major "Hari Pal Singh Ahluwalia" passed away on Friday(14th Jan 2022) evening. He was 85.
 
HPS Ahluwalia was a retired army officer, a trained mountaineer, author and social worker "who has contributed immensely in various fields including adventure, sports, environment, disability and social work", said a statement.
 
As a professional mountaineer, he was one of the first Indians to conquer Mount Everest. He has written over 13 books including his autobiography Higher Than Everest, it said Major Ahluwalia has also been a former president of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation and the Delhi Mountaineering Association.

The government on Wednesday(19th Jan 2022) approved the equity infusion of Rs 1,500 crore in Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) to enable it to lend Rs 12,000 crore to green energy projects.
 
IREDA, a mini ratna company under the administrative control of the new and renewable energy ministry was set up in 1987 to work as a specialised non-banking finance agency for the renewable energy sector.
 
The equity infusion, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, will enable IREDA to facilitate the debt requirement of additional renewable energy generation capacity of about 3,500-4,000 Mw, an official statement said.
 
This will help in employment generation of nearly 10,200 jobs-year and CO2 equivalent emission reduction of approximately 7.49 Million Tonnes CO2/year, it said.

Camels are a popular animal closely linked to heritage in Saudi Arabia. The animal has long been dubbed as the “ship of the desert”, being the lifeline for desert dwellers.
