World Asthma Day is celebrated across the globe on 3rd May. The day is set aside to raise awareness about asthma and how those battling the condition can best equip themselves. It is a long-term inflammatory disease that affects the airways of the lungs and can cause symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. 

While asthma cannot be cured permanently, it can be controlled to an extent that the symptoms become negligible and can be appropriately managed by patients. Bihar, chief minister "Nitish Kumar" inaugurated on Saturday(30th April 2022) a greenfield grain-based ethanol plant built at a cost of Rs 105 crore at Purnea. The project is a part of Bihar’s ambitious foray into ethanol production using sugarcane, maize and rice to meet the country’s fuel needs.
 
 
The ethanol plant has been built using the latest technology and will not discharge any waste, making it a zero-liquid discharge plant that is completely environment friendly. It was commissioned under the Government of India and the Bihar dispensation’s ethanol promotion policies announced in 2021.
 
The plant will buy 130 tons of rice husk and 145-150 tons of maize or rice directly from local farmers. It will generate direct employment to 52 people and create avenues of earning for hundreds of others in the area..

India and Germany on Monday(2nd May 2022) agreed to cooperate on agro-ecology and sustainable management of natural resources in the agriculture sector, with the latter intending to provide concessional loans of up to 300 million euros by 2025 for such initiatives.
 
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Germany's Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze signed a declaration in this regard in a virtual meeting, an official statement said.
 
As per the agreement, the two nations have agreed for the promotion of joint research, knowledge sharing and innovation between academic institutions and practitioners including farmers, it said.
 
Cooperation and Development intends to provide up to 300 million euros by the year 2025 for financial and technical cooperation for projects under this initiative," the statement said..

Maharashtra Cabinet approved the ‘Maharashtra Gene Bank’, a first-of-its-kind project in India. What are the seven focus areas?
 
The ‘Maharashtra Gene Bank Project’ will work on seven themes :

* Freshwater biodiversity
* Grassland, scrubland, and animal grazing land biodiversity
* Conservation and management plans for areas under forest right
* Rejuvenation of forest areas.
 
The project will be implemented by the Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board (MSBB) and will be overseen by committees under the chief secretary and the principal secretary (forests). The MSBB will coordinate with institutions like the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) Goa to document and conserve rare and endangered marine species.
