Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will be formally launching the second phase of Kanti Velugu initiative, Eye Screening programme in Khammam district on 18th Jan 2023.
 
The Programme is considered to be the world’s largest eye screening programme.  
 
Three Chief Ministers from other States, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Singh Mann and Delhi Counterpart Arvind Kejriwal will also be taking part in the programme.

The three Chief Ministers and Uttar Pradesh's former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav reached Hyderabad last evening.
 
Under the Kanti Velugu, free eye screening will be held at the special health camps for 100 days with 1500 medical teams.

Mr. Prime Minister said that events like MP Khel MahaKumbh will give new directions to the players in the country. Almost 200 MP are organising this Khel mahakumbh which will benefit a lot to the youths of the country.

Talking about the steps taken by State government for promotion of the sports in villages, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that process of constructing playgrounds in all the 58 thousand gram panchayats of the state is underway and in around 34 thousand village panchayats, the land has been acquired already. He said that state government has separately allocated the fund to promote the budding players and sports persons and it is already giving a prize money of 6 crore for winning gold in Olympics.
 
Saansad Khel Mahakumbh is being organised in Basti by Lok Sabha MP from the constituency, Harish Dwivedi since 2021.
 
Saansad Khel Mahakumbh 2022-23 is being organised in two phases. The first phase was organised from 10th to 16th December, 2022 and the second phase of the Khel Mahakumbh will be organised from 18th Jan 2023 to 28th January, 2023.
 
The Khel Mahakumbh organises diverse competitions in both indoor and outdoor sports like wrestling, kabaddi, kho kho, basketball, football, hockey, volleyball, handball, chess, carrom, badminton, table tennis etc. Apart from these, competitions in essay writing, painting, rangoli making etc are also organised during the Khel Mahakumbh..

The manufacturing Kalashnikov AK-203 assault rifles in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi has started by the Indo-Russian joint venture.

The move is likely to provide greater firepower to the Indian armed forces. The joint venture, registered and located in India, whose founders on the Russian side are Rosoboronexport and Kalashnikov Concern (both subsidiaries of the Rostec State Corporation), has started producing Kalashnikov assault rifles.
 
Kalashnikov A-200-series assault rifles are in line with all current trends in small arms technology. They are fitted with integral Picatinny rails for convenient and easy mounting of sights and tactical accessories, enabling the effective use of weapons in various conditions.
 
Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited plans to ensure 100 per cent localisation of the production of AK-203 rifles in India.

In future, the company may also increase output and upgrade its production facilities to produce advanced rifles based on the Kalashnikov assault rifle platform.

Union minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday (15th Jan 2023) said the Met department's severe weather prediction accuracy improved by around 40 per cent in the last eight to nine years.
 
Addressing the 148th foundation day of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minister said disaster-related mortality has dropped to single digit with improvement in forecast.
 
He said the number of doppler radars in the county has increased from 15 in 2013 to 37 in 2023. India will add 25 more radars in the next two to three years, taking the number to 62, he added.
 
"The entire country will be covered by doppler radars by 2025," he said.
 
The IMD on Sunday (15th Jan 2023) commissioned four doppler weather radars (DWRs) in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir which will bolster its weather monitoring capabilities in the western Himalayan region.
 
The four DWRs have been installed at Banihal Top in Jammu and Kashmir, Jot and Murari Devi in Himachal Pradesh and Surkanada Devi in Uttarakhand...

AD Damodaran, leading scientist and former director of the CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), passed away on Friday (13th Jan 2023) in Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 87.

He also served as the Chairman of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment
 
A renowned material scientist, he had a stint with the Nuclear Fuels Complex, Hyderabad, and was visiting scientist at both the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, and the Indian Institute of Metals. Damodaran joined CSIR-NIIST as director in May 1985 and served in that capacity for 12 years.
 
He was also the chairman of the public sector Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) and an expert in Intellectual Property Rights, food nutrition, nutraceuticals and advanced materials.
