Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, DMRC has started selling of  ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ from its selected Metro stations through dedicated counters from 4th September 2023.

These Smart Cards which will be sold till 13th of this month, has been launched to facilitate the G20 delegates and international visitors who might be interested in exploring the prominent tourist places of the capital city as they arrive in Delhi.

 The 36 stations where these cards will be sold through dedicated counters include  Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, ITO and Supreme Court metro stations.

The ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ will be available in two categories of One-Day Validity and Three-Day Validity cards, offering unlimited rides in the Metro network. The One-day validity Tourist Smart Card will be available for 200 rupees. The three-day validity card will be available for 500 rupees. Our correspondent reports that this amount also includes a refundable security deposit of 50 rupees.

Besides unlimited rides, these Tourist Smart Cards are of great benefit to tourists as they can seamlessly travel in the entire network from the first train to the last train service available for the day. There are no penalties or surcharges levied on Tourist Smart Cards on account of instances like Entry or exit mismatch, overstay in the system, and overstepping.

Delhi Metro, which is ranked among one of the largest Metro systems in the world is well connected to almost all the prominent tourist destinations in the city like Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Akshardham Temple, and Kalkaji Temple, to name a few. Tourists can seamlessly reach these tourist places by travelling on various corridors of the Delhi Metro by using these cards. Tourists can also download the ‘Delhi Metro Rail’ app for more details on the network to plan their journeys.

The App also includes a dedicated section on the home page by the name of ‘Tour Guide’ where they can find the list of all stations and tourist places nearby. Tourist Smart Cards are also available at all Metro stations Except Airport Express Line across the network. The 169-year-old Byculla railway station has bagged the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award 2023 of Merit for cultural heritage restoration and conservation.

On Monday, Union Minister for Railways, Communication, Electronics, and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav met Shaina NC and congratulated her team and Central Railway for their efforts in the restoration of Byculla station to its original architectural glory.

The Byculla railway station was commissioned in the year 1853.

In July 2019 a huge project to restore the ancient heritage architecture of Byculla railway station, one of India’s oldest stations began.

* This project had been initiated in coordination with Railways by Shaina NC Trustee, I Love Mumbai, in loving memory of her father Ex-Sheriff of Mumbai and Founder of I Love Mumbai and Giants International, late Padmashree Nana Chudasama with the support of Bajaj Trust Groups, and Abha Narain Lambah Associates, as their CSR initiative.

* Minal Bajaj and Niraj Bajaj of Bajaj Group and Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation funded this huge restoration project of over four crore rupees.

* Heritage Conservation Architect Abha Narain Lambah graciously consented to do the project pro bono as their CSR initiative in honor of the city of Mumbai.
 

The task of the entire planning and execution was completed and Byculla railway station was restored to its original, ancient, heritage architecture with excellence on 29.4.2022 at the hands of Raosaheb Dadarao Patil Danve, Minister of State for Railways, Government of India. Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra, Shaina NC, Trustee, I LOVE MUMBAI, Minal Bajaj and Niraj Bajaj of Bajaj Group and Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, Heritage Conservation Architect Abha Narain Lambah, Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, presently Chairman & CEO, Railway Board (then General Manager Central Railway), Principal Head of Departments and other Senior Officers of Central Railway were also present.

• Improved and restored exit passage of platform number 1 -(Dadar end)
• Garden area facing the façade restored and beautified
• Restoration of all walls, grills, FOBs
• Renovation of toilets for general and Divyangjan
• Upgradation/beautification of water huts – two each on all platforms
• Restoration and upgradation of benches
• LED lighting at station in heritage scheme
• Repainting and beautification of FOBs
• Heritage wing roof restoration
• Separate ladies toilet and regulation/restoration of the façade of offices/stores along the concourse.

Today, Byculla station stands proudly as a symbol of history and heritage and at the same time a station with the most modern amenities..

Model Station Scheme was in vogue from 1999 to 2008. Under this scheme 594 stations were selected for upgradation on Indian Railways.

Out of these 34 stations in Madhya Pradesh were selected for upgradation and all the identified stations have been developed under this scheme. A list of zone-wise stations developed under the Model Station scheme is appended.

Recently, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has been launched for development of Railway stations on Indian Railways. This scheme envisages development of stations on a continuous basis with a long-term approach.

So far 1309 Railway Stations have been identified under this scheme including 80 no. of stations in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

In a first in the country, hydrogen-powered trains are expected to run from Haryana’s Jind district by the end of this year (2023) and first hydrogen plant of country is being set up in Jind, said Shobhan Chaudhry, general manager (GM) of Northern Railway who visited the spot on Thursday (22nd June 2023).

Officials claimed that hydrogen powered trains have been running only in Germany and the whole world is keeping a watch on this project and how India will commence such trains.

India’s first hydrogen plant is being set up near the railway junction of Jind district. The plant development has entered the final phase and hydrogen will be produced from water, said officials.

The first prototype of the hydrogen train, expected to commence in the fiscal of 2023-2024 between Jind-Sonipat section of Northern Railway. They said that now trains are being run by diesel and electric and this will be the new for the country.

The hydrogen fuel based train of eight bogies will be environment friendly. The officials apprised the GM about the method of filling the hydrogen in trains and a process of collection of this fuel, said Jai Prakash, deputed as station master in Jind district..

Delhi Metro has launched QR code paper tickets for passengers of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The new facility has started and now allows travellers to use QR code-based paper tickets during the travel from metro.

* DMRC has said that the new system is an alternative to the existing tokens and smart cards and that the organisation has even modified its gates and counters to scan the QR codes and collect the fares. The QR ticketing system has been under trial for some time.

* According to DMRC, each station has two gates for entry and exit that can accept QR paper tickets. The corporation plans to make all the gates and ticket machines compatible with QR codes by June.

* Delhi metro is also aiming to launch mobile QR tickets by the end of this month. This will further make travel in Metro faster, easier and more convenient, as riders would not have to buy physical tickets at the stations or counters.

How to use QR paper ticket in Delhi Metro :

* Buy a QR based Paper Ticket (non-refundable) from the Ticket Vending Machine or the Customer Care Counter at the station where you want to start your journey.

* Scan the QR code on the ticket at the entry gate within 60 minutes of buying the ticket. You cannot enter from any other station than the one where you bought the ticket.

* If you do not scan the ticket within 60 minutes, it will become invalid and you will have to buy a new one.

* Scan the ticket again at the exit gate when you reach your destination station..
