Tamil Nadu is establishing mini non-leather footwear industrial parks in an area of 30-50 acres. An initiative of state owned Sipot and Sidco under public-private partnership mode, the facilities will feature designs on a par with industrial parks.

Announcing this during the inauguration of JR One Footwear factory at Eraiyur in Perambalur through video conferencing from Chennai on Tuesday (28th Nov 2023), chief minister M K Stalin said the government is taking several initiatives to attract global investors in the non-leather footwear sector.

Plans are afoot for setting up a footwear park at Panapakkam in Ranipet district at an investment of Rs 400 crore. It will offer employment opportunities for 20,000 people.

"Tamil Nadu is the most preferred destination due to ease of doing business. There are significant developments in the footwear and leather sector after we launched the Tamil Nadu Footwear & Leather Products Policy in 2022,” he said.

In view of such a pace of growth, days are not far away to realise the ambitious target of making Tamil Nadu a $1 trillion economy by 2030, he added.

He said the Perambalur facility reflects on the state government’s success in wooing investments to backward districts. The factory will provide job opportunities for the youth, particularly women in and around the district.

Established at an investment of Rs 400 crore, the factory will generate 4,000 jobs. The facility, which will make Crocs brand of footwear, has come up in the footwear park developed by Phoenix Kothari Footwear, a joint venture between Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd. (KICL) and Evervan group of Taiwan.

The production unit, a part of the Phoenix Kothari footwear hub, was commissioned exactly a year after the foundation stone was laid. In the first phase, the factory will produce 10 million pairs of Crocs brand footwear annually. Further, facilities will be expanded to manufacture 20 million pairs of footwear every year.

Stalin said the footwear industrial park at Perambalur would attract Rs 2,440 crore investments and generate jobs for 29,500 individuals before 2028..

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot Wednesday (29th Dec 2023) said the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi will notify its 'Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme 2023' later  29th Nov 2023.

The scheme introduces the nation's first-ever aggregator scheme exclusively tailored for premium buses and calls for a modal shift in public transportation. The buses that will come to be a part of the initiative will have exceptional quality, comfort, and reliability, and will lead to a reduction in congestion and air pollution, the government said.

The scheme defines a "Premium Bus" as any full-AC luxury public bus having a seating capacity of no less than nine passengers, pre-reserved reclining seats, and equipped with Wifi, GPS, and CCTV, the statement said.

The scheme stipulates that the 'onboarded' bus must not be more than three years old, in case the bus is CNG, and the buses joining the service after January 1, 2025, must be electric.

Here is how the scheme is going to affect commuters:
Under the scheme, only pre-booked digital ticketing will be permissible, with no physical tickets issued. All charges from passengers are to be collected exclusively through electronic or digital payment modes.

In addition to ensuring the safety and security of the passengers, the scheme will encourage aggregators and delivery service providers to adopt electric vehicles for their services to reduce air pollution in the national capital.

The scheme paves the way for the inclusion of bike taxis as service providers and mandates that the aggregators onboard electric two-wheelers for passenger transport service.

The scheme will ensure timely and effective redressal of the riders' grievances on receipt of any complaint concerning the ride or the driver or the condition of the vehicle. The concerns raised by the rider can be reported within 24 hours of the ride being availed.

If the complaint registered with the grievance redressal centre is criminal in nature, then the concerned driver will be off-boarded from the aggregator till the issue is resolved.

The scheme implements a zero-tolerance policy on the use of drugs or alcohol applicable to any driver. The aggregator will immediately off-board such driver and the suspension will last till the investigation by the aggregator.

The scheme ensures that the passenger vehicles are installed with a Certified Vehicle Tracking and Monitoring System with panic buttons relevant to a Public Service Vehicle.

Under the scheme placement of a fire extinguisher, disabled child lock mechanism, and enabled manual override for the central locking system are mandatory..
