Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras researchers have partnered with Inspire Institute of Sports, Karnataka to develop an analytics platform 'Smartboxer'.

It is an advanced boxing analytics software being developed with an aim to increase India’s boxing medal tally at the 2024 Olympics. The multi version software is developed by the Center of Excellence for Sports Science and Analytics at IIT Madras.

 

It will provide feedback and performance assessments using Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled wearable sensors and video cameras.

 

‘Smartboxer’ will be deployed to analyse the boxers’ performance at Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS). Based on the feedback from IIS, changes will be incorporated into the ‘Smartboxer’ analytics platform. This will enable the software to be effectively used to assist coaches and boxers.

 

* Sensor embedded gloves to analyse Punch Force

* Wireless foot insole with a pressure sensor to record Ground Reaction Force

* wireless EMG sensors to record movement in the player’s lower body

* Inertial Measurement Unit to record movement in player’s upper body

* Video cameras placed in the boxing ring will identify the left and right arms of a player and classify the movements as an attack, defence, or feint.

Abhijit Sen, renowned agriculture economist and former member of the Planning Commission during the previous United Progressive Alliance government, passed away Monday(29th Aug 2022). He was 72.

 

“He suffered a heart attack around 11 pm. We rushed him to the hospital, but it was all over by the time we got there,” said Pronab Sen, his brother, also an economist who was the chairman of the National Statistical Commission and Chief Statistician of India.

India will have Reliance Jio's 5G services by Diwali in October 2022. Making the announcement at the 45th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited, the company’s chairman "Mukesh Ambani" said, “29th Aug 2022, I want to announce the next leap forward that Jio is creating in digital connectivity, especially in fixed broadband. That is Jio 5G. With 5G, we will connect 100 million homes with unparalleled digital experiences and Smart Home solutions.”

 

Ambani has said that the roll out will be by Diwali, which falls on October 24th, 2022. “Reliance Jio has prepared world's fastest 5G rollout plan. By Diwali, we will launch Jio 5G across multiple key cities, including metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

The policy helped small businesses with the development of infrastructure and technology. A year later, the Centre formally declared August 30 as the National Small Industry Day.

 

For the very first time, on August 30, 2001, the ministry organised a convention for entrepreneurs in the small-scale industry in New Delhi, and along with that, held an event to present national awards. International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances is marked every year on August 30th to honour and pay tribute to people who have faced enforced disappearances. 

 

Global organisations UN and Amnesty International observe this day to raise awareness about how enforced disappearance is a crime and should not be used as a tool to deal with situations of conflict. 

 

According to the UN, more than 6,000 people were registered as missing in Kosovo since 1999. Hence, the resource centre for missing persons in Kosovo has also been initiated by the UN.

Bengaluru ranks second after Beijing on the list of top technology hubs in the Asia-Pacific region, according to property consultant Cushman & Wakefield.

 

In its latest report 'Tech Cities: The Global Intersection of Talent and Real Estate', the consultant has identified tech markets based on 14 criteria across talent, real estate, and business environment metrics.

 

The report has identified "Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Delhi as the top technology hubs in the APAC region after Beijing", the consultant said in a statement.

 

Bengaluru leads India with 2,30,813 tech jobs created during the last fiscal, followed by Chennai with 1,12,781, Hyderabad with 1,03,032 and Delhi with 89,996 jobs.

 

"The IT and tech-driven sectors remain the key driving force for the Indian economy," said Anshul Jain, MD, India & South East Asia.

 

Bengaluru is one of the largest contributors to office space leasing with an average share of 25-30% in annual pan-India leasing activity between 2017 -2021.

 

The tech sector has accounted for an average 38-40% share in annual leasing activity in the Bengaluru office market, which is higher than the national average of 35%..
