Telugu actor Tanikella Bharani has been chosen for the award of the annual Sahitya Puraskar of Lok Nayak Foundation this year(2022). The award would be presented to him at the birth centenary celebrations of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao at the Kalabharathi auditorium here on Monday evening.

 

Announcing this at a media conference here on Sunday(4th Sep 2022), Lok Nayak Foundation Chairman Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad said that the award carries a cash prize of ₹2 lakh. The foundation, established 19 years ago, has been giving the annual award for the past 18 years.

 

Mizoram Governor Kambhampati Haribabu would participate as the chief guest. Actor Manchu Mohan Babu, Justice Jasti Chelameswar, retired Judge of the Supreme Court, Lok Satta Founder N. Jayaprakash Narayan, Chairman of Vignan Group of Institutions Lavu Rattaiah and Associate Editor of Andhra Jyothi daily A. Krishna Rao would attend as guests.

 

To mark the birth centenary of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao this year, four individuals, who had served NTR from the day he took charge as Chief Minister till his death, would be presented cash prizes of ₹1 lakh each..

The former president won an Emmy Award on Saturday(3rd Sep 2022) to go with his two Grammys. Barack Obama won the best narrator Emmy for his work on the Netflix documentary series, "Our Great National Parks".

 

The five-part show, which features national parks from around the globe, is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, “Higher Ground.” He was the biggest name in a category full of famous nominees for the award handed out at Saturday night’s Creative Arts Emmys, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, David Attenborough and Lupita Nyong’o.

 

Barack Obama is the second president to have an Emmy. Dwight D. Eisenhower was given a special Emmy Award in 1956.

 

Barack Obama previously won Grammy Awards for his audiobook reading of two of his memoirs, The Audacity of Hope and “A Promised Land. Michelle Obama won her own Grammy for reading her audiobook in 2020. EGOT refers to a special category of entertainers who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Former German chancellor "Angela Merkel" has been awarded the 2022 Unesco Peace Prize for "her efforts to welcome refugees". 

 

"All the members of the jury were touched by her courageous decision in 2015 to welcome more than 1.2 million refugees, notably from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Eritrea. This is the legacy she leaves," jury president and 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner Denis Mukwege said on Tuesday(23rd Aug 2022). 

 

The director general of the UN cultural organization, Audrey Azoulay, also praised Merkel, saying her win serves as a reminder "that the way in which we treat migrants and refugees is a critical issue"

 

The honour, which is officially called Felix Houphouet-Boigny-Unesco Peace Prize, is named after the former president of Ivory Coast.

 

It has been awarded each year since 1989 to individuals, organisations or institutions that have made a special effort to promote, research or secure peace..

Fahmida Azim (Bangladesh) has been selected for the 2022 Pulitzer prize under the category of Illustrated Reporting and Commentary.

 

Presently, she is working for the Insider online magazine of US.

 

She is among the four journalists including Anthony Del Col, Josh Adams and Walt Hickey of Insider, selected for their work on the Chinese oppression of the Uyghurs.

 

Fahmida Azim is an illustrator and story teller. Her work centers on themes of identity, culture and  autonomy.

Ranveer Singh has won the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2022 best actor award for his movie 83.

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is underway currently. The event, held annually in Australia, celebrates the India film industry by screening some of the most prominent and acclaimed films, TV shows, and web series from the country. One of the highlights of the festival is the awards night, where select awards are given to the best performers from Indian cinema and OTT scene from the previous year. This year’s awards night recognised some of the biggest names from the field in a glittering ceremony held in Melbourne on Sunday(14th Aug 2022). 

 

The 13th edition of the IFFM began on Friday, 12th August 2022 and will conclude on 30th August 2022. The in-person event ends on 20th August 2022, beyond which the festival continues virtually for another ten days. On Sunday, 14th August 2022, the festival’s awards night was held at the Palais Theatre. 

 

Hosted by Rithvik Dhanjiani, the event saw big wins for Kabir Khan’s sports drama 83 and its star Ranveer Singh, as well as the Prime Video web series Mumbai Diaries 26 and the film Jalsa. The two films that had the most nominations--Jai Bhim and Gangubai Kathiawadi--failed to win a single award.

Renowned Bangladeshi architect, researcher and educator "Marina Tabassum" became the first person from the global south and first south Asian to win the prestigious Lisbon Triennale Millennium bcp Lifetime Achievement Award. 

 

Announcing the award, the Lisbon Architecture Triennale jury praised Marina Tabassum for presenting an inspiring example of work with local communities that can have a positive impact across the globe even under the most adverse conditions. 

 

The International Jury for the award said that Marina Tabssum’s unique practice touches on the spiritual fundamentals of architecture. Driven by specific cultural and geographical context, her works address pressing contemporary issues, said the jury in their citation for the award. Her work shows how architects can challenge the climate crisis and bring about social change in an experimental, respectful and inspiring manner. 

 

She will receive an original artwork by the Portuguese artist and sculptor Carlos Nogueira as award during the Lisbon Triennale which begins on 29 September in Lisbon, Portugal..

Tibetan spiritual leader "Dalai Lama" was honoured with the 'dPal rNgam Duston' award -- the highest civilian honour of Ladakh -- for his immense contribution to humanity, especially towards the union territory, an official said on Saturday(6th Aug 2022).

 

The sixth award was conferred by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh which celebrated the 'dPal rNgam Duston' with great fervour on the occasion of its foundation day at Sindhu Ghat on Friday(5th Agu 2022).

 

The 87-year-old spiritual leader, who is on a visit to the union territory since July 15, appreciated the gesture and stressed maintaining communal harmony in the region..

A Canadian scholar, "Jeffrey Armstrong" has been awarded with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) 2021 Distinguished Indologist for his outstanding contribution in study, teaching and research in any of the fields of Indian Studies.

He is the founder of the Vedic Academy of Science & Arts and author of The Bhagavad Gita comes Alive.

The ICCR Distinguished Indologist award was instituted in 2015 during the First World Indology Conference.

“A jury for the Distinguished Indologist Award -2021 met in February 2022 and after careful considerations decided to select Mr Jeffrey Armstrong for the award.

Mr Armstrong becomes the seventh recipient of this award, and joins the earlier recipients from Germany, China, Japan, UK, South Korea and USA,” a release from the consulate said..

British Prime Minister "Boris Johnson" on Tuesday(26th July 2022) presented Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the Sir Winston Churchill Leadership Award, drawing comparisons between the two leaders in times of crises.

 

Zelenskyy accepted the award by video link during a ceremony at Johnson's London office that was attended by members of the Churchill family, Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko and Ukrainians who have received training from British soldiers.

 

Johnson recalled how Zelenskyy confirmed on February 24 that Russia had invaded, adding: “In that moment of supreme crisis, you faced a test of leadership that was, in its way, as severe as Churchill's challenge in 1940.”.
