The Karnataka state government on Thursday(20th Jan 2022) launched a centre of excellence for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comics (AVGC), positioning it as a pioneering high technology digital media hub.   
 
The AVGC centre located in Mahadevapura is an initiative of Innovate Karnataka, a state-funded programme, IT/BT Minister "C N Ashwath Narayan" said.  
 
Karnataka was the first Indian state to introduce an AVGC policy in 2012. The state is now home to the country’s first to set up such a centre, which is also said to be the biggest in Asia, the government said in a release.  
 
“This centre brings digital excellence to creative industries. India now commands around 10% of the global AVGC market and has the potential to reach 20-25% by 2027. Karnataka has been driving the AVGC sector in the country..
