48 hours in 3000 resumes : Bengaluru-based start-up founder expresses shock over poor job market
A technology startup founder received nearly 3000 resumes within 48 hours of posting a job role online.

Springwork's CEO revealed that the company received an overwhelming response from 3,000 resumes within just 48 hours of posting job openings on their website.

Karthik Mandaville, founder and CEO of Springworks, expressed dismay at the situation and questioned the state of the job market. Notably, thousands of people are out of a job as several tech companies across the country stage layoffs.

Some of the prominent tech companies that have laid off employees in recent times include Amazon, Meta, Google and Twitter.
When asked if this influx of resumes was unusual, Mandaville replied that the flood of applications continued throughout the month. In fact, the company has received 12,500 applications so far. This extreme interest in their job placements raises questions about the possible reasons behind it.

One Twitter user speculated that the reason for the high level of interest was that SpringWorks was advertising "permanent remote" positions. The inclusion of the word remote in job listings seemed to be the main reason for attracting such a large number of applicants. Curiosity grew as to how many applications they would receive if they had on-site roles instead.
A visit to the SpringWorks career website confirmed that all open positions in sales, marketing, operations, product and tech were indeed labeled "permanent remote." The company has decided on May 6, 2020 to adopt a remote-first approach for better work-life balance. Currently employing around 200 people, SpringWorks seems committed to this remote work model.

Several Twitter users also joined the conversation, sharing their experiences and observations about the job market, especially in the IT sector. A user recounted a personal incident where around 700 people showed up for a walk-in interview at an IT company in Delhi for just 20 positions. It highlighted the intense competition and challenging conditions faced by job seekers.
Many of India's top IT companies have scaled back their hiring activities due to uncertain demand in the near future, driven by concerns over a potential US recession. However, managements at companies like TCS and Wipro say they still have significant deal momentum and are hopeful of a pick-up in growth later this year. Analysts also anticipate a strong demand environment and expect the sector to pick up in the first half of next year.

Overall, the increase in applications received by SpringWorks reflects the current dynamics of the job market, with remote work opportunities of considerable interest. This situation highlights the challenges faced by job seekers, especially in the IT sector, while also offering hope for future growth and recovery.
