Apple is considering changing its long-standing Apple ID to Apple Account by the end of 2024, according to a recent report.

Apple ID has been in existence for almost a decade, starting with the launch of iCloud in 2011. It has evolved from prior incarnations such as iTool, .Mac, and @me.com from the early 2000s.

Sources have suggested that the name change might be part of the company's continuing experimentation, however the exact reason for the rebranding has not been revealed.

If this change occurs, it is expected to align with the launch of iOS 18 and macOS 15, scheduled for September or October this year.

The consequences of this rebranding are unclear, leading to discussions on whether it indicates a more extensive reorganization like past versions or is just a marketing change.

Apple ID is a fundamental component for customers, acting as the main access point to Apple products, iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Pay, and a range of other services.

Recent improvements, including the inclusion of passkeys in iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, have enhanced security protections by simplifying the login process without requiring passwords.

With the possible release of iOS 18 approaching, there is increasing discussion regarding the significant changes it may include.

The reports suggest that the user interface (UI) would be redesigned, taking influence from Apple Vision Pro, including features like as transparent effects and blur effects. iOS 18 is set to provide a range of artificial intelligence (AI) improvements, including improved functionality and user experience on iPhones.
