Facebook and Instagram's parent company Meta in a report listed the actions it had taken against bad content on its two social media platforms in India in May. The number of bad content is around 25 million and includes categories such as spam, adult nudity and sexual activity, hate speech, violence and provocation.

In a monthly report in compliance with the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Ethics) Rules, 2021, the company said it purged such content in 13 policies for Facebook and 12 policies for Instagram between May 1-31.
The company said it received complaints about such content through pre-established channels. These include pre-established channels for specific breaches, self-remediation flows to download their data, ways to resolve account hacked issues, etc. The company has also considered the orders received from the Grievances Appellate Committee (GAC).


Bad content reports received for Facebook :


According to Meta, Facebook has received 16,995 reports through the Indian complaints mechanism and we have responded to 100% of these reports. In 2,325 cases the company provided tools to users to solve their problems.
Of the other 14,670 reports that required separate review, we reviewed the content as per our procedures and acted on a total of 2,299 reports. The remaining 12,371 reports have been reviewed but may not be acted upon for the reasons explained above,” Meta added.


Bad content reports received for Instagram


On Instagram, the company received 16,267 reports through the Indian Grievance Mechanism from May 1-31 and responded to 100% of the reports.
"Of these incoming reports, in 3,828 cases we provided tools to users to resolve their issues," the company said.

Of the other 12,439 reports that required special review, a total of 2,671 reports were acted upon. The remaining 9,768 reports were reviewed but may not be acted upon.

New IT Rules 2021 require social media platforms with more than 5 million users to publish monthly compliance reports.
