Microsoft to host a special Windows and Surface AI event in May 2024
Microsoft has announced that it will be holding a special AI event on the morning of May 20, a day before the tech giant commences its Build 2024 developer conference.

According to The Verge, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will reportedly share details about the company’s “AI vision across hardware and software.” The report goes on to say that the special May 20 event won’t be live streamed on the internet and exclusive to journalists Microsoft has sent invitations to. It looks like the tech giant will share details about the upcoming AI features coming to Windows and some Surface devices.

While the upcoming March 21 event will focus on business, we might see the consumer-centric Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 at the special May event. These laptops are said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processors, which also feature dedicated neural processing units that boost AI-powered tasks on Windows 11.

On the software front, Microsoft seems to be getting ready to introduce several new features, but the most anticipated one is the “AI Explorer”, an upcoming functionality that might allow Windows 11 users to leverage the power of generative AI to search for past actions, similar to the now deprecated Timeline feature on Windows 10.

The tech giant had recently stated that 2024 will be “the year of the AI PC.” While hardware partners like Intel, AMD and Qualcomm seem to be ready to embrace AI PCs, we are still to hear from Microsoft about how and when Windows will take advantage of the recent advancements on the hardware front. Microsoft has also said that it will share more details about its AI initiatives, so we might also see some new announcements surrounding Copilot.

The last time Microsoft hosted a Surface event was in September last year, when the tech giant unveiled new devices like the Surface Laptop Studio 2, Surface Laptop Go 3 and the Surface Go 4.
