Tech companies globally continue to face the heat of impending recession concerns, and as a result, drastic cost-cutting and job cuts continue.

Global tech firm Oracle appears to be conducting another round of layoffs, but this time affecting its health unit.

Initially reported by Insider, the software giant is also rescinding job offers and cutting back some open positions. The layoffs in its health division follow Oracle's high-profile acquisition of electronic medical records firm Cerner for $28.3 billion in December 2021.
Oracle's Cerner division secured contracts with the US Department of Veterans Affairs Office to maintain and improve the electronic systems used to store and manage patients' health information. However, the US department halted the partnership after several patients were impacted by Cerner software glitches.

The layoffs in the health division could be related to Cerner's troubled partnership with the US Department for Veterans. The report highlights that Oracle will offer severance pay equal to four weeks and one additional week for every year of service and a payout of vacation days.

Oracle was expected to cut jobs across its US and European offices, though the company has a large workforce in India as well. The exact scale of impacted workers remains unclear, and it is also unknown if workers in India will be affected.
Former Cerner workers and members from the health-tech community also took to LinkedIn to show support to impacted workers. Kathy Schoening, a former VP of professional services at Cerner wrote that she was feeling sad for former Cerner / Oracle health colleagues. Her post on LinkedIn states, "I am sad for you, but here to help... Cerner once was a good company and taught you well. Know that, and be confident in what you are capable of doing."

A LinkedIn user, Vivian Ramos, seemingly worked at the company for eight months. She announced her abrupt exit from the company in a separate post.

Her comment on Schoening's post reads, "I am one of those that was laid off today... I'm heartbroken. I started about seven months ago, received incredible feedback, and endorsements from my managers. I loved my role. I'm hoping to find something that I love just as much. I wish luck to everyone who was affected by this mass layoff. Much love to everyone."

Earlier this year, Oracle laid off more than 3,000 employees along with other measures to cut expenses. It was also reported that the IT company paused raises and promotions. Around that time, several former employees took to LinkedIn to look for new jobs. Oracle had laid off workers in its India division as well.
