Qualcomm says Samsung, Google plan to use its new headset chip
Qualcomm made the announcement on Thursday (4th Jan 2023) that Samsung Electronics and Google, which is owned by Alphabet, aim to use a newly built computer processor to power mixed and virtual reality headsets.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor has the capacity to handle data streams from a dozen cameras that are built inside the headset. This functionality allows the chip to control the data streams.

In the midst of rising rivalry in the market for mixed-reality headsets, which are devices that allow users to get views of the outside world via the use of cameras, this new breakthrough has taken place. It is believed that the forthcoming arrival of Apple's Vision Pro headset, which is expected to be released soon, would intensify this battle.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, believes that Apple may begin selling the $3,500 Vision Pro headset, which makes use of a custom-designed processor that is comparable to those found in certain Apple computers, either later this month or at the beginning of February.

Despite the fact that Google and Samsung have disclosed their desire to make use of the new Qualcomm processor, they have not provided any specifics on the devices in which it would be incorporated.

On the other hand, The Co-CEO and Vice Chairman of Samsung, Han Jong-hee, together with the Co-CEO and President of Samsung, Kyung Kye-hyun, have jointly delivered a New Year's address in which they have detailed the strategic objectives that Samsung has for the next year.

In its announcement, Samsung highlights its commitment to creating "super-gap technologies" in order to continue to preserve its competitive advantage beyond the year 2024 for the company. The company's goal is to strengthen its competitive advantage by embracing "technological superiority and the ability to adapt to future changes." This is the company's mission statement.
