Apple Reveals 'Vision Pro' Headset and visionOS at WWDC 2023
Apple unveiled its much-hyped mixed reality headset, VisionPro, at WWDC 2023 on 5 June 2023. The newly announced headset is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2024 and is priced at around $3,500 (UK- £2,849)  and (approximately ₹2,89,000).

The $3,499 price tag has caught the attention of many people on social media platforms, which has led to a full on meme fest.

Chief executive Tim Cook described the headset as, "The first Apple product you look through, and not at. The headset resembles a pair of ski goggles.

It is named, Vision Pro, it is a controller-free device that lets a user browse rows of app icons by looking at them.

Apple Vision Pro is the result of decades of experience designing high‑performance, mobile, and wearable devices — culminating in the most ambitious product Apple has ever created. Vision Pro integrates incredibly advanced technology into an elegant, compact form, resulting in an amazing experience every time you put it on.

Vision Pro
Enclosure : A singular piece of three-dimensionally formed laminated glass flows into an aluminum alloy frame that curves to wrap around your face.

Light Seal : The Light Seal gently flexes to conform to your face, delivering a precise fit while blocking out stray light.

Head Band : The Head Band provides cushioning, breathability, and stretch. The Fit Dial lets you adjust Vision Pro precisely to your head.

Power : The external battery supports up to 2 hours of use, and all‑day use when plugged in.

Sound : Speakers positioned close to your ears deliver rich Spatial Audio while keeping you aware of your surroundings.

Vision Pro makes it easy to collaborate and connect wherever you are. FaceTime video tiles are life-size, and as new people join, the call simply expands in your room. Within FaceTime, you can also use apps to collaborate with colleagues on the same documents simultaneously.

A user can also tap to select and flick to scroll, and can also give voice commands. The headset displays the user's eyes with a system called EyeSight.
* Apple says the system will work with Microsoft Office apps, as well as teleconferencing services like WebEX and Zoom.

* VisionOS runs on the same framework as iOS and iPad OS, meaning that existing apps will port over. The company is also launching a new App Store specifically for the headset.

* It’s teamed with Unity, as well, to support development tools for games, which should offer a better experience than simply porting over existing games.

A new version of FaceID called OpticId brings security features for using things like Apple Pay. Meanwhile, camera data is processed onboard and the company doesn’t log where you look.

The ultimate theater. Wherever you are :

Vision Pro can transform any room into your own personal theater. Expand your movies, shows, and games up to the perfect size while feeling like you’re part of the action with Spatial Audio. And with more pixels than a 4K TV for each eye, you can enjoy stunning content wherever you are — whether that’s a long flight or the couch at home.

Responsive, precision eye tracking :

A high-performance eye tracking system of LEDs and infrared cameras projects invisible light patterns onto each eye.

This advanced system provides ultraprecise input without your needing to hold any controllers, so you can accurately select elements just by looking at them.

A sophisticated sensor array :

A pair of high-resolution cameras transmit over one billion pixels per second to the displays so you can see the world around you clearly.

The system also helps deliver precise head and hand tracking and real‑time 3D mapping, all while understanding your hand gestures from a wide range of positions. It comes with 12 cameras, five sensors and six microphones.

Revolutionary dual‑chip performance :

The VisionPro is powered by Apple's M2 chip and is enabled with a new processor called R1, specifically for sensor processing.

Vision Pro Chips

A unique dual‑chip design enables the spatial experiences on Vision Pro. The powerful M2 chip simultaneously runs visionOS, executes advanced computer vision algorithms, and delivers stunning graphics, all with incredible efficiency. And the brand-new R1 chip is specifically dedicated to process input from the cameras, sensors, and microphones, streaming images to the displays within 12 milliseconds — for a virtually lag-free, real-time view of the world.

Disney Partnership :

Apple has also inked partnerships to provide content on the headset with Arcade and Disney. Disney CEO Bob Iger presented the AR/VR content that will be available on the headset from day 1.
