Exams are very important in the education system. These are considered as a measure to know the talent of the students. Candidates' ability is assessed through competitive examinations conducted for various jobs. But many people have that kind of anger, fear and anxiety about exams. While not remembering the answers during exams is one problem, making the exam tough is another. There are many tough exams in the world.

World's Top 10 Tough Exams :

1. Gaokao Exam - China

Gaokao or National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) is also called National Higher Education Entrance Examination.

The first place in the list of the toughest exams in the world is China's Gaokao exam. Usually the exam is only three to four hours long. But the duration of the Gaokao exam is nine hours. It is conducted as a qualifying examination for admissions to graduation in colleges in China. To appear for this exam, first you have to pass the test conducted on Chinese Language and Mathematics.

The foreign language section is to select one of the following English, French, Japanese, Russian, German or Spanish. Students applying for the Gaokao exam should choose a stream from Liberal Arts or Natural Science. If you qualify this test, you get admissions in top institutions in China.

2. JEE Advanced - India

JEE Advanced is conducted as an eligibility test for admissions in engineering courses in IITs and NITs of the country. Inter pass students will appear for this exam. But only those who have scored less than 2.5 lakh rank in JEE Main are eligible to write JEE Advanced.


3. UPSC Civil Services Exam - India

Civils Exam is one of the toughest exams in the world. This exam is conducted to select candidates for Allindia Administration Service. It consists of three stages. The first stage is the prelims exam, the second stage is the mains and finally the interview. This exam is very tough. So very few people qualify.

4. Mensa Exam-UK

Mensa IQ Test is the internationally recognized intelligence quotient test known for its efficiency in measuring the intellectual capability of knowledgeable people. Mensa isn't technically an abbreviation for anything; it's a Latin term that translates as "table," and it's used to refer to a circular table where everyone is treated equally.

About Mensa Organization : Mensa is a non-profit organization founded by Roland Berrill and Dr Lancelot Ware in 1946. It is renowned for its high intelligence assessment questions. In this non-profit organization, there are different groups of people, each representing a single nation. They have become members of the Mensa organization.

Mensa's IQ test is conducted for only those people who are highly intelligent. To pass the Mensa intelligence test, you need to score a minimum 98th percentile of the population. Thus, according to Mensa, only two persons out of every hundred may conceivably become members.

Mensa IQ Test : Mensa test consists of 60 questions, and you get 40 minutes to complete the test. If anyone scores more than 132 SD 16, you will get an opportunity to become a member of Mensa.


5. GRE (Graduate Record Examination)- America

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for many graduate schools in the United States and Canada and a few other countries. The GRE is owned and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS).

The test was established in 1936 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

According to ETS, the GRE aims to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired over a long period of learning. The content of the GRE consists of certain specific data analysis or interpretation, arguments and reasoning, algebra, geometry, arithmetic, and vocabulary sections.

The GRE General Test is offered as a computer-based exam administered at testing centers and institution owned or authorized by Prometric. In the graduate school admissions process, the level of emphasis that is placed upon GRE scores varies widely between schools and departments within schools. The importance of a GRE score can range from being a mere admission formality to an important selection factor.

6. CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)-USA

CFA full form is Chartered Financial Analyst. CFA is one of the most sought-after designations for investment professionals across the globe. CFA Institute offers a globally recognised professional credential in Financial Management & investment. The CFA course is regarded as the world’s most respected and recognised designation in finance and investment management.

Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE certification) is a series of technical certifications for senior networking professionals who design, build, implement, maintain and troubleshoot complex enterprise networking infrastructures.

The CCIE certification program is divided into six separate series, or tracks, and includes the following: collaboration, data center, routing and switching, security, service provider, and wireless.

First issued in 1993, the CCIE certification program is continuously updated by Cisco. Fewer than 3% of Cisco engineers achieve CCIE certification, accounting for fewer than 1% of all networking professionals worldwide.

8. Gate - India

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an All-India test authorised and managed in eight regions across the country. The exam is conducted by the GATE Committee, comprising faculty members from IISc and seven other IITs on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, National Coordinating Board and Department of Education. The purpose of the GATE exam is to test students’ knowledge in subjects like Engineering and Science.

The GATE scorecard is also used by multiple PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) to recruit applicants for distinguished jobs at Indian Oil, GAIL and Hindustan Petroleum, etc.


9. USMLE Exam- America

In the United States and its territories, the individual medical licensing authorities ("state medical boards") of the various jurisdictions grant a license to practice medicine. Each medical licensing authority sets its own rules and regulations and requires passing an examination that demonstrates qualification for licensure. Results of the USMLE are reported to these authorities for use in granting the initial license to practice medicine. The USMLE provides them with a common evaluation system for applicants for initial medical licensure..


10. California Bar Exam


The California Bar Examination consists of the General Bar Examination and the Attorneys’ Examination.

The General Bar Exam consists of three parts : five essay questions, the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), and one performance test (PT). The parts of the exam may not be taken separately, and California does not accept the transfer of MBE scores from other jurisdictions. The Attorneys’ Exam consists of the essay questions and performance test.
