What are the advantages and disadvantages of direct view storage tubes?
Direct view storage tubes (DVSTs) were an early form of computer display technology used in the mid-20th century. Here are some advantages and disadvantages associated with DVSTs :

Advantages :

* Persistence : DVSTs have a persistent phosphor coating, meaning that once an image is displayed, it remains visible on the screen until it is actively erased or overwritten. This persistence makes them suitable for displaying static images for extended periods without requiring continuous refreshing, unlike some other display technologies of the time.

* High resolution : DVSTs were capable of achieving relatively high resolutions for their time, making them suitable for displaying detailed images and text.

* Resistance to image burn-in : Unlike some other early display technologies like cathode ray tubes (CRTs), DVSTs were less prone to image burn-in, where static images displayed for prolonged periods could become permanently etched onto the screen.

Disadvantages :

* Limited viewing angle : DVSTs typically had a limited viewing angle, meaning that the image quality degraded when viewed from off-center angles.
