A joint training exercise “Exercise Trishakri Prahar” was conducted in North Bengal from 21 January to 31 January 2023, aiming at synergising the firepower assets of the Indian Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to orchestrate an integrated battle.

Aim : The aim of the exercise was to practice battle preparedness of the Security Forces using the latest weapons and equipment in a networked, integrated environment, involving all arms and services of the Army, the Indian Air Force and CAPFs.

As part of the exercise, swift mobilization and deployment practices were carried out in various locations across North Bengal. Efforts of all agencies including the Civil Administration, Civil Defence Organisations, Police and CAPFs were coordinated to ensure efficient move and quick mobilization.

Exercise Trishakri Prahar culminated on 31 January 2023 with an Integrated Fire Power Exercise in Teesta Field Firing Ranges.

About Exercise  :

* The exercise showcased the joint application of ground and aerial assets to include the latest generation Fighter Aircraft, helicopters, Tanks, Infantry Combat Vehicles, Medium & Field Artillery Guns, Infantry Mortars, and various New Generation Infantry weapons and equipment in a networked environment.

* The exercise also witnessed the participation of newly inducted weapons and equipment made in India as part of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’.

* The firepower exercise was reviewed by Lt Gen RP Kalita, Army Commander, Eastern Command. Senior officers of BSF, ITBP, SSB, and civil administration dignitaries also witnessed the exercise. On termination of the firepower exercise, a display of the major weapons and equipment was also organised.

* The conduct of “Exercise TRISHAKTI PRAHAR” enabled rehearsal and coordination amongst various agencies for quick movement and employment of forces across North Bengal. The Integrated Fire Power Exercise showcased the Indian Armed Forces’ capability in the synergised application of Indian Air Force assets, Airborne Special Forces and the Security Forces in a networked environment....

The 2023 edition of Indian Navy’s major maritime exercise TROPEX, is currently underway in IOR. This Operational level exercise is conducted biennially and witnesses participation from Indian Army, Indian Air force and Indian Coast Guard assets.

TROPEX 2023 is being conducted over a duration of three months from January 2023 - March 2023. As part of exercise, all surface combatants of Indian Navy including Destroyers, Frigates, Corvettes as well as submarines and aircraft are put through complex Maritime Operational deployments to validate and refine Navy’s Concept of Operations including operation allogistics and interoperability with other services.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct Exercise PRALAY in the northeastern sector of India amid the unresolved contention with China about differing perceptions regarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the two nations.

The exercise will involve major air bases of the IAF in the northeast in addition to the recently deployed drone squadron.
 
The Exercise PRALAY will be held in the next few days amid IAFs’ defensive posturing along the Indo-Sino Border.
 
It is signified by its activation of the S-400 air defense systems along the LAC. The S-400 is capable of striking the target from 400 kilometers away.
 
Exercise PRALAY will include major combat assets including the recently acquired Rafale fighter in addition to Su-30 fighter jets and other transport aircraft.
 
The Indian Air Force is monitoring the situation as there is a significant increase in Chinese activity along the LAC, in Doklam and Tawang.
 
The recent deployment of an IAF drone squadron to the northeast region augments its capabilities of monitoring enemy activities along the Siliguri and the Sikkim Corridor.
 
The exercise will be conducted amid the preparations for another IAF exercise called ‘Poorvi Akash’ set to be conducted in the first week of February.
 
Exercise Poorvi Akash is an annual command-level exercise and is being conducted after a gap of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
 
The Indian Air Force’s Eastern Air Command has the entire northeast air space under its area of operation (AOR)..

The first ever joint exercise between the special forces of the Indian Army and the Egyptian Army named “Exercise Cyclone-I” is in progress at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan since 14 January 2023.

The exercise aims to bolster defence co-operation between the two nations and focus on sharing professional skills and interoperability of Special Forces in desert terrain while undertaking counter terrorism, reconnaissance, raids and other special operations.
 
Exercise “Cyclone - I” is the first exercise of its kind bringing the special forces of both the nations on a common platform.

The 14 days long exercise which is being carried out in the deserts of Rajasthan engages both the contingents to advance special forces skills such as Sniping, Combat Free Fall, Reconnaissance, Surveillance & Target Designation, sharing of information on weapons, equipment, innovations, tactics, techniques & procedures.

The participants would also undertake joint planning and drills for Special Forces operations in a mechanised warfare setting as well as surgical strikes on terrorist camps / hideouts to include sniping of High Value Targets.
 
The joint exercise would provide an insight into the culture and ethos of both armies thereby fostering military cooperation and interoperability to further strengthen the diplomatic relations between India and Egypt...

The Indian Navy will commission the fifth scorpene-class submarine "Vagir" on 23rd January 2023, officials said on Thursday (19th Jan 2023).

* The commissioning of the submarine, built under the Project-75, is set to bolster the Navy's combat capability at a time when China has been increasing its presence in the Indian Ocean region.
 
* Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar will grace the induction ceremony as the Chief Guest.
 
* The Project-75 includes indigenous construction of six submarines of Scorpene design.
 
* The submarines are being constructed at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai under a collaboration with the Naval Group of France.
 
* Four of the Kalvari class of submarines have already been commissioned into the Indian Navy.
 
* The former Vagir was commissioned on 01 Nov 1973 and undertook numerous operational missions including deterrent patrols.

* The submarine was decommissioned on 07 Jan 2001 after serving the nation for about three decades.

* The submarine was launched and named ‘Vagir’ on 12 Nov 2020, in its new avatar has the distinction of having the lowest build time among all indigenously manufactured submarines to date.

The company said TBAL’s 14,000-sq-m facility, in addition to being a global sole source supplier for Apache fuselages, produces complex aero-structures for Boeing 737 and 777 models.

The joint venture between Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) employs over 900 engineers and technicians and utilises the latest robotics, automation and advanced aerospace concepts in its manufacturing processes.
 
“This is a proud milestone and a testimony of our commitment towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the world-class manufacturing capabilities at our joint venture Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited at Hyderabad.

The Apache will provide the Indian Army with a significant boost in capability just as the AH-64 has for the Indian Air Force,” said Salil Gupte, president, Boeing India.
 
Boeing had completed the deliveries of all 22 AH-64E Apache helicopters to the Indian Air Force in 2020.
 
TBAL has produced and supplied Boeing’s Apache final assembly plant in Mesa, Arizona, with over 190 fuselages, Tata Boeing Aerospace said. More than 90 per cent of the parts used in these aerostructures assemblies are manufactured within India through over 100 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) suppliers in support of the government’s vision for Make in India, according to the statement. Tata Group recently won the ‘Supplier of the year’ award 2022 from Boeing, from among more than 11,000 suppliers worldwide, it added.
 
With more than 1,275 AH-64 Apaches in operation accumulating over 4.9 million flight hours globally, 1.3 million of which have been in combat, the attack helicopter holds the reputation of being the world’s most advanced and proven attack helicopter..

Captain Surbhi Jakhmola of the Indian Army's 117 Engineer Regiment will be the first woman officer to be posted on a foreign assignment at the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), news agency ANI reported. The officer will be sent to Bhutan as part of Project Dantak. 
 
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is an executive road construction force in India that supports the Indian armed forces.
 
BRO builds and maintains road networks along India's borders and in friendly neighbouring countries. It is also included in the armed forces Order of Battle, ensuring their support at all times. 
 
In order to improve border connectivity, BRO was transferred entirely to the ministry of defence in 2015.
 
The BRO's deployment comes just days after the Indian Air Force deployed woman fighter pilot squadron leader Avani Chaturvedi to Japan for the exercise Veer Guardian 2023, which will take place from January 16 to 26 at the Hyakuri Air Base and its surrounding airspace in Omitama, as well as the Iruma Air Base in Sayama in Japan.
 
Avani Chaturvedi, a Su-30MKI pilot and one of India's first three women fighter pilots will depart for Japan shortly to take part in the exercise. 
 
Chaturvedi was born, raised, and completed her education in Madhya Pradesh. She was inducted into the IAF fighter squadron after six months of intensive training at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad..
