The exercise, referred to as BS22, is conducted within the framework of the Five Power Defense Arrangements (FPDA) – a series of bilateral and multilateral defense agreements established in 1971. Bersama means together in Malay.

The exercise will involve sea and air drills, mostly in international waters but also in part of Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea, the statement said without elaborating.

A Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia notice has warned about the closure of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore flight information regions during “periods of intense aerial activity” between March 24 and 31.

The drills have been organized annually since 2004.

Parts of last year’s edition – called Bersama Gold 2021 to mark 50th anniversary of the FPDA – were held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Live action included anti-air and anti-submarine drills, gunnery firings and maneuvering drills. A total of 2,600 personnel, 10 ships, one submarine, six maritime helicopters, three maritime patrol aircraft, 25 fighter aircraft, two support aircraft and one command and control aircraft took part.

North Korea fired a suspected InterContinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Thursday(24th March 2022), South Korean President Moon Jae-in said.

"It poses a serious threat to the Korean peninsula, the region and the international community," Moon said in a statement, adding that it was a "clear violation" of UN Security Council resolutions.

Tests were a "breach of the suspension of intercontinental ballistic missile launches promised by Chairman Kim Jong Un to the international community," Moon added.

Japanese authorities said the missile flew for about 71 minutes to an altitude of about 6,000 kilometers (3,728 miles) and to a range of 1,100 kilometers from its launch site.

Most powerful weapon tested since 2017

The test marks the first time Pyongyang has launched such a powerful weapon since 2017. The UN Security Council resolutions have banned all North Korean ballistic missile and nuclear tests and placed sanctions on its weapons programs

Earlier, Japan's vice minister of defense said North Korea may have fired a "new type" of ICBM toward the sea off the east coast of the Korean peninsula.

Japan's coast guard said the suspected missile had landed 170 kilometers off the coast of northern Japan, which is within Japan's exclusive economic zone..

More than 30,000 soldiers from North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO) and partner nations are now in Norway for exercise Cold Response.

Cold Response 2022 (CR 22) is a Norwegian military exercise with invited allies and partner nations. The exercise started on 14 March and will continue to 1 April 2022.

The first allied troops arrived in Norway last autumn and earlier this winter to train and prepare for the exercise. There will also be some minor allied training in April, after the field exercise.

Over 30,000 soldiers from 27 countries, as well as a number of civilian agencies participate in the exercise.

Why we exercise : To be able to defend our country, the Norwegian Armed Forces must exercise regularly. At the same time, NATO is the foundation of the Norwegian defence. Our allies therefore need to exercise on deploying to Norway, and they must train and operate along with Norwegian forces under harsh winter condition. After two pandemic-cancelled exercises in 2020 and 2021, this year's exercise is extra important..
