Serbian Tennis Player, Novak Djokovic, on Sunday(8th January 2023), defeated America’s Sebastian Korda in a nerve-wracking final to win the 2023 Adelaide International men’s singles title.

The 21-time Grand Slam winner won the match 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 in three hours and nine minutes.

After losing the first set, Djokovic faced a championship point with the score-line reading 5-6 in favour of Korda. However, once the Serbian took the match in the tie-breaker, there was no stopping him.

"It's been an amazing week and you guys made it even more special. For me to be standing here is a gift, definitely. I gave it all today and throughout the week in order to be able to get my hands on the trophy,” Djokovic was quoted as saying after the match.

"The support that I've been getting in the past 10 days is something that I don't think I've experienced too many times in my life, so thank you so much [to] everyone for coming out every single match," he added.

Djokovic also equalled Rafael Nadal’s tally of 92 ATP singles titles in the Open Era. Nadal and Djokovic are joint-fourth in the list after Jimmy Connors (109), Roger Federer (103) and Ivan Lendl (94).

The former World No.1 also won his 34th match in a row on Australian soil since the beginning of 2019. The 35-year-old has also won 23 of his last 24 matches and has looked in decent form of late.

Djokovic is now set to return to the Australian Open, which gets underway in just over a week’s time. Last time around, he couldn’t take part in the hard-court tournament due to all the controversies he was involved in surrounding his Covid vaccination status..
