Tata Steel Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hockey India to become an official partner of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) for the Hockey Men’s World Cup, to be held in 2023 in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela in Odisha.
 
This is among the largest hockey tournaments, with the 2023 championship being the 15th edition. It will be India’s fourth time hosting the tournament, with the first in 1982 in Bombay.

Subsequently, the tournament was held in 2010 in Delhi, and 2018 in Odisha. Sixteen countries are expected to participate in the championship to be held 2023.
 
Hockey India’s president "Dilip Tirkey" said, “We are delighted to welcome Tata Steel into our family as an official partner for the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023. 
 
They have made a tremendous contribution in promoting Indian hockey, elevating the sport to new heights, and making this World Cup even greater. We look forward to a fruitful association."

According to a report by GroupM ESP, the entertainment, esports and sports division of GroupM India, the size of the Indian sports industry was estimated to have surpassed ₹9,500 crore in 2021. The armies of India and Kazakhstan are jointly conducting the training exercise KAZIND-2022 at Umroi in Meghalaya.

* The 6th edition of the joint exercise is being carried out from 15 December to 28 December 2022.
 
* Exercise KAZIND 22 is witnessing the participation of Indian Army soldiers of the 11 Gorkha Rifles. The Kazakhstan Army is being represented by troops of the Regional Command, South.

* Through this joint exercise, the two armies aim to enhance their ability to operate together while undertaking counter-terrorist operations in semi-urban/jungle scenarios, under a UN peace enforcement mandate.
 
* The annual military exercise includes a Command Post Exercise (CPX) at the Battalion level and Company level Field Training Exercise (FTX) on sub-conventional operations.

* During the training exercise, troops from both armies will engage in a variety of missions ranging from joint planning, joint tactical drills, basics of special arms skills, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and raiding hostile targets.
 
* The joint training exercise between India and Kazakhstan army began in 2016 as Exercise Prabal Dostyk. In 2018, the exercise was upgraded to a company-level exercise and renamed as KAZIND.

* With the help of this joint exercise, the two armies will be able to prepare for and carry out a number of tactical drills that will be used to counter potential threats that may arise during UN peacekeeping operations.
 
* Exercise KAZIND will improve the level of defence cooperation between the Kazakhstani and Indian armies, further strengthening the two countries’ bilateral ties..

Conny won her singles 13-7 against Akanksha Nitture, who came in place of Valeriya Strakhova. Ramkumar Ramanathan bridged the gap for Mumbai by beating Niki Poonacha 12-8.
 
However, Conny and Balaji combined smartly to outwit Akanksha and Jeevan 13-7. That meant Hyderabad needed only seven points in the men’s doubles to seal victory, while Mumbai needed 14 points from the duo of Ramkumar and Jeevan. Niki placed a crisp volley to close the contest 7-6. Hyderabad thus successfully defended its crown won last year.
 
Mumbai had done very well to scrape through the semifinals earlier against Bengaluru Spartans, winning the last point, for a 41-39 triumph.
 
The champion team was presented ten lakh rupees and the runner-up, five lakh. Conny Perrin was declared the “player of the match” in the final, while the honour went to Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in the two semifinals.
 
The concurrently held TPL Plus event, a platform for the juniors, witnessed Mumbai Leon Army emerging the champion.

The wholesale price-based inflation declined to a 21-month low of 5.85 per cent in November 2022 on easing prices of food, fuel and manufactured items.
 
* After remaining in double digits for 19 months, the wholesale price index (WPI) based inflation declined to 8.39 per cent in October. The inflation was 14.87 per cent in November 2021.
 
* "Decline in the rate of inflation in November 2022, is primarily contributed by fall in prices of food articles, basic metals, textiles, chemicals & chemical products and paper & paper products as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year," the Commerce and Industry Ministry said on Wednesday(14th Dec 2022).

What is a hypersonic vehicle?

A hypersonic vehicle can be an airplane, missile, or spacecraft that has the ability to travel five times faster than the speed of sound, or greater than Mach 5. It is regarded as a cutting-edge technology, and countries like China, India, Russia, and the United States have been trying to further enhance the ability of their hypersonic weapons.
 
The Indian space agency has been developing hypersonic missiles in collaboration with Russia.
 
Indian scientists are also working on a project for an indigenous, dual-capable hypersonic cruise missile as part of its Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle program. As per reports, the Indian indigenous missile will have the ability to fire nuclear weapons along with conventional weapons..

The retail inflation print has come to its lowest level since December 2021. The CPI has come below the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) upper margin of 6 per cent for the first time in the calendar year 2022.
 
The government has mandated the central bank to maintain retail inflation at 4 per cent with a margin of 2 per cent on either side for a five-year period ending March 2026..
