Captain Surbhi Jakhmola of the Indian Army's 117 Engineer Regiment will be the first woman officer to be posted on a foreign assignment at the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), news agency ANI reported. The officer will be sent to Bhutan as part of Project Dantak. 
 
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is an executive road construction force in India that supports the Indian armed forces.
 
BRO builds and maintains road networks along India's borders and in friendly neighbouring countries. It is also included in the armed forces Order of Battle, ensuring their support at all times. 
 
In order to improve border connectivity, BRO was transferred entirely to the ministry of defence in 2015.
 
The BRO's deployment comes just days after the Indian Air Force deployed woman fighter pilot squadron leader Avani Chaturvedi to Japan for the exercise Veer Guardian 2023, which will take place from January 16 to 26 at the Hyakuri Air Base and its surrounding airspace in Omitama, as well as the Iruma Air Base in Sayama in Japan.
 
Avani Chaturvedi, a Su-30MKI pilot and one of India's first three women fighter pilots will depart for Japan shortly to take part in the exercise. 
 
Chaturvedi was born, raised, and completed her education in Madhya Pradesh. She was inducted into the IAF fighter squadron after six months of intensive training at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad..

The FIH Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 kicked off in Odisha with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Wednesday (11th Jan 2023).
 
The ceremony, named ‘Celebrations’, started with local Odia and Indian artists setting the tone for the night with their cultural music and dance performances.

Several Bollywood hits were also played at Barabati Stadium by music composer Pritam and his team of renowned playback singers.

Indian Coast Guard ship "Kamla Devi", the last in series of five fast-patrol vessels, was commissioned in Kolkata, West Bengal on Thursday (12th Jan 2023).
 
Coast Guard director general VS Pathania and various other senior military and civil officials were present on the occasion.
 
The vessel, built indigenously by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, has been named after Kamla Devi Chattopadhyay, an eminent social reformer and freedom activist.
 
The vessel is 48.9 metres long and 7.5 metres wide with a displacement of 308 tonnes.
 
It is capable of achieving the maximum speed of 34 knots, is powered with MTU 4000 series engines and is propelled by three 71S type III Kamewa waterjets of Rolls Royce.

She has an Integrated Bridge System and is fitted with 40/60 guns as the main armament.

The ICGS Kamla Devi has advanced habitability features with fully air-conditioned accommodations for 35 personnel.

ICGS Kamla Devi will patrol the seas and carry out anti-smuggling, anti-poaching and search and rescue operations as and when required.

MV Ma Lisha, a passenger-cum-cargo ocean-going ferry built by the Shipyard for the cooperative Republic of Guyana was also flagged off..

OneWeb, the London-based satellite internet services company backed by Indian conglomerate Bharti Enterprises and the UK government, 10th Jan 2023 announced the successful deployment of 40 if its satellites launched by SpaceX.

* This marks OneWeb’s 16th launch so far and the company only needs two more launches to complete its first-generation constellation.
 
* A SpaceX rocket lifted off with the rockets from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 11.50 PM ET on 9th January 2023. (10.20 AM IST on January 10). The rockets were deployed into orbit in three phases over a period of one hour and 35 minutes and OneWeb was able to confirm signal acquisition on all of the 40 satellites.
 
* With the launch, OneWeb has a total of 542 operation satellites in orbit (two satellites failed), which is more than 83 per cent of the total 648 satellites planned by the company.

* Apart from SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, OneWeb satellites have also been launched aboard the Russian Soyuz launch vehicle and ISRO’s LVM-3 rocket.
 
* Interestingly, OneWeb is also a direct competitor of SpaceX’s Starlink service. Once its satellite network is fully deployed, OneWeb plans to provide low-latency high-speed satellite internet services using constellations of low-Earth satellites, exactly like Starlink..

Retail inflation declined to a one-year low of 5.72 per cent in December 2022, mainly due to softening prices of food items, according to official data released on Thursday (12th Jan 2023).
 
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based retail inflation was at 5.88 per cent in November 2022 and 5.66 per cent in December 2021.
 
As per the data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), inflation in the food basket was at 4.19 per cent in December as against 4.67 per cent in November.
 
After remaining above the Reserve Bank of India‘s upper tolerance threshold of 6 per cent since January 2022, retail inflation declined in November to 5.88 per cent and further in December 2022 to 5.72 per cent — its lowest level in one year..
