India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC) Vikrant completed its fourth phase of sea trials on Sunday(10th July 2022), the Indian Navy said. The 40,000-tonne aircraft carrier, the largest and most complex warship to be built in India, conducted trials of major equipment and systems, including key aviation equipment.
 
The warship was built at a cost of around Rs 23,000 crore and its construction propelled India into a select group of countries having capabilities to build state-of-the-art aircraft carriers. The warship will operate MiG-29K fighter jets, Kamov-31 helicopters, MH-60R multi-role helicopters.
 
It has over 2,300 compartments, designed for a crew of around 1,700 people, including specialised cabins to accommodate women officers. Vikrant has a top speed of around 28 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots with an endurance of about 7,500 nautical miles.
 
The IAC is 262 metres long, 62 metres wide and it has a height of 59 metres. Its construction began in 2009. The warship has been built by Cochin Shipyard Limited(CSL)..

The navies of China and Pakistan will commence a live-fire drill on Tuesday(7th July 2022) off the Shanghai coast as part of a four-day joint maritime exercise code named Sea Guardians-2, official media here reported on Monday(11th July 2022).
 
Fleets participating in the drill will set off from a military port in Shanghai for the scheduled sea area.
 
The joint exercise aims to enhance defence cooperation, exchange expertise and experience, deepen the traditional friendship between the two countries and militaries, and promote the development of the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Nokia and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore have jointly opened the Nokia Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Networked Robotics at IISc.
 
The CoE will promote interdisciplinary research involving robotics and advanced communication technologies in 5G and artificial intelligence (AI). The CoE will also develop use cases across industrial automation, agriculture and disaster management.

Rajendra Prasad was appointed the new Managing Director of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) on July 8. Agnihotri, a 1982 batch retired IRSE officer is accused of misusing his position and illegally diverting funds of Rs 1,100 crore to a private company, owned by the Navayuga Engineering Company Limited (NECL). The RVNL also has a stake in the company.
 
It is reported that the company gave a house to him in Delhi and also awarded a job to his daughter at the company in favour of getting the contracts.
 
The investigation agency will investigate the charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The CBI has been given time to submit its investigation report in six months or by December 12, 2022. A complaint of corruption was lodged against him on September 30, 2022..
