The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) much-delayed indigenous new launch rockets, called the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), will have its maiden development flight in April, new Chairman Dr S Somanath indicated during Tuesday’s(27th Jan 2022) meeting with Union Minister of State for Space Jitendra Singh.
 
In an official statement, the Press Information Bureau said Dr Somanath mentioned the launch of an “SSLV-D1 Micro SAT in April 2022”.
 
The SSLV aims to cater to the market for the launch of small satellites into Earth’s low orbits that has emerged in recent years to cater to the need of developing countries, universities for small satellites, and private corporations...

Alphabet Inc's "Google" will invest up to USD 1 billion in Bharti Airtel in a move that could help bolster the Indian telecom operator's digital offerings, the companies said in a BSE filing on Friday(28th Jan 2022).
 
The investment includes a USD 700 million equity investment in Airtel at a price of 734 rupees (USD 9.77) per share and up to USD 300 million towards implementing commercial agreements, including investments in scaling Airtel's offerings, the companies said.
 
The share issue is subject to regulatory and shareholder approval and comes months after Airtel raised up to 210 billion rupees through a sale of shares to existing shareholders.
 
Airtel shares were up 0.54 per cent at 711 rupees after the announcement.
 
Google announced plans less than two years ago to infuse USD 10 billion in India via its digitisation fund over five to seven years through equity deals and tie-ups.

India's BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) signed a contract with the Department of National Defence of the Republic of Philippines on Friday(28th Jan 2022) for the supply of Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System to the Philippines, the Ministry of Defence said.
 
The BAPL is a joint venture company of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
 
"The contract is an important step forward for the Government of India's policy of promoting responsible defence exports," the Ministry added.
 
The Indian team of BrahMos Aerospace in India, led by BrahMos CEO Atul D Rane, Deputy CEO Sanjeev Joshi, Lt Col R Negi, and Praveen Pathak, was present at the signing of the deal.
 
These missiles are meant for the Philippines Navy.
 
Earlier this month, the Philippines accepted BAPL's proposal worth USD 374.9 million to supply Shore-Based Anti-Ship Missile systems for the Philippines Navy.
 
DRDO and BAPL together have been pushing hard for exports of this missile to friendly foreign countries for the last few months.
 
The BrahMos export order would be the biggest for the country in this field and is likely to propel India amongst arms exporting countries as more orders for the missile are expected from other friendly countries..

The Government of India officially handed over India’s flag carrier, Air India to Talace Private Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Group, on January 27, 2022, almost 69 years after acquiring the conglomerate. The total value of the deal is Rs 18,000 crore (USD 2.4 billion). Tatas would pay Rs 2,700 crore  cash and take over  Rs 15,300 crore  of the airline's debt.
