Amazon on Wednesday(21st Sep 2022) announced the setting up of its first solar farm in India. The e-commerce major will be setting up three solar power projects with a capacity of 420 megawatt (MW) in Rajasthan.
 
In the Asia-Pacific region, Amazon is announcing the company’s first three large-scale projects in India. All three are solar projects in Rajasthan, representing 420 MW of clean energy capacity. Amazon is scaling fast in India, and these first investments play a critical role in reducing our carbon emissions in the country,” Amazon said in a statement.
 
Tie-up with Amp Energy : As part of Amazon’s India plans, Amp Energy India, renewable energy (RE) producer, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to sell RE to Amazon from a 100 MW solar power plant in Rajasthan.
 
Located in Bhadia, Rajasthan, the plant will be fully operational by the end of 2023. Amp is also developing a 1 gigawatt (GW) of utility scale projects. This solar plant will help mitigate 1,13,645 tonnes of harmful CO2 emissions.
 
Besides Amp Energy, Amazon has also signed a pact with ReNew Power for a 210 MW project, and another with Brookfield Renewable for a 110 MW project.
 
Combined, these solar farms have the capacity to generate 1,076,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of RE per year, enough to power over 360,000 average-sized households in New Delhi annually, the US-headquartered company said.
 
Additionally, Amazon has announced 23 new solar rooftop projects on its fulfillment centres across 14 cities in India, which have the capacity to generate an additional 4.09 MW of renewable energy. This brings the total number of solar rooftop projects in India to 41 with 19.7 MW of renewable energy capacity..

World Bank has approved a USD 350 million or over ₹2,832 crore loan to Gujarat for augmenting health services with a special focus on adolescent girls and disease surveillance in the state. The Executive Board of Directors has given nod to the loan, said the multilateral funding agency as quoted by PTI.
 
The agency informed that the funding will come from the World Bank arm International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), carrying a maturity of 18 years including a grace period of 5.5 years.
 
According to the World Bank, the loan amount will be utilized through the state government's Systems Reform Endeavours For Transformed Health Achievement In Gujarat (SRESTHA-G) programme which will enable more people to access a wider range of high-quality health services.
 
Currently, Gujarat provides seven health services to its citizens including reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs)..

Two indigenously designed and built Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) - Nistar and Nipun were launched by the Indian Navy in Visakhapatnam on Thursday(22nd Sep 2022).
 
The vessels, built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd., were launched by Kala Hari Kumar, in the presence of Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, who presided over the ceremony as chief guest.
 
Kala Hari Kumar, president of the Navy Wellness and Welfare Association (NWWA), performed the traditional honour and named these ships.
 
Other senior officers from the Indian Navy and Ministry of Defence were among the dignitaries who attended the launching ceremony.
 
These ships are a true testimonial to 'Aatmanirbharta'. They are self-sustaining platforms that can operate at sea for prolonged durations.
 
DSVs equipped with an array of complex diving support systems and a Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV) will be deployed for deep sea diving and submarine rescue operations. Furthermore, the ships will be capable of conducting search and rescue operations and carrying out helicopter operations at sea.
 
This project was executed with the support of the Indian industry, primarily MSME firms who have supplied yard material, equipment and services. More than 120 MSME vendors across India actively participated in the project.
 
‘Nistar’ and ‘Nipun’ were launched by achieving approximately 80 per cent indigenous content, a major step towards 'Self Reliance'. The DSV project has generated local employment opportunities and promoted indigenisation which will boost India's economy..

* The bank has failed to comply with the requirements of Sections 22(3) (a), 22 (3) (b), 22(3)(c), 22(3) (d) and 22(3)(e) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949;
 
* The continuance of the bank is prejudicial to the interests of its depositors;
 
* The bank with its present financial position would be unable to pay its present depositors in full; and
 
* Public interest would be adversely affected if the bank is allowed to carry on its banking business any further.
 
* Consequent to the cancellation of its licence, “The Laxmi Co-operative Bank Limited, Solapur, Maharashtra” is prohibited from conducting the business of ‘banking’ which includes, among other things, acceptance of deposits and repayment of deposits as defined in Section 5(b) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 with immediate effect.
 
* On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive deposit insurance claim amount of his/her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of ₹5,00,000/- (Rupees five lakh only) from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) subject to the provisions of DICGC Act, 1961. As per the data submitted by the bank, about 99% of the depositors are entitled to receive full amount of their deposits from DICGC. As on September 13, 2022, DICGC has already paid ₹193.68 crore of the total insured deposits under the provisions of Section 18A of the DICGC Act, 1961 based on the willingness received from the concerned depositors of the bank..
