Anmolpreet Singh chose the perfect day to score his maiden T20 century as his 113-run knock helped Punjab clinch its maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 title defeating Baroda in the final by 20 runs at the I.S. Bindra stadium here on Monday.

Ninad Rathva (47, 22b, 5x4, 3x6) and Abhimanyusingh Rajput (61, 42b, 3x4, 4x6) kept Baroda in the hunt — helped by some sloppy fielding by Punjab which put down four catches.

However, the fate of the game was sealed in the penultimate over of a thrilling run chase when Arshdeep Singh brought his A-game and picked up three wickets including that of Krunal Pandya (45, 32b 3x4 1x6), Shivalik Sharma and Bhanu Pania.

Despite the dew in the second half, a 224-run target proved beyond Baroda’s reach and Punjab won the title in front of the home crowd.

Earlier, Anmolpreet smacked a 58-ball ton and added 138 for the fourth wicket with Nehal Wadhera, who scored an entertaining 61 (27b, 6x4, 4x6).

Put in, Punjab started badly as Abhishek Sharma was out for a golden duck and Prabhsimran Singh went for nine. Krunal Pandya then sent back Mandeep Singh, who attempted a reverse sweep as the score read 80 for three.

But the Anmolpreet-Nehal partnership was the highlight of the innings in front of a decent turnout that cheered the local favourites.

The Baroda bowlers wavered in their line and lengths as the Punjab duo sent every full toss to the fence — nine sixes and three fours came off the last 21 balls — and got the team to 223 for four in its 20 overs.

Apart from Krunal Pandya, who finished his quota with one for 30, the other bowlers had a forgettable outing.

The scores :

Punjab 223/4 in 20 overs (Anmolpreet Singh 113, Mandeep Singh 32) bt Baroda 203/7 in 20 overs (Ninad Rathva 47, Abhimanyusingh Rajput 61, Krunal Pandya 45, Arshdeep Singh 4/23). Toss: Baroda..

Kerala has bagged the Global Responsible Tourism Award 2023, in a major endorsement of the sustainable and women-inclusive initiatives successfully promoted by the State’s Responsible Tourism Mission (RTM).

The award is instituted by Responsible Tourism Partnership and International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT) in the best for local sourcing, food, and craft category.

The State’s RT Mission was selected for the award, the most valued honour being given for sustainable and inclusive tourism initiatives, for linking women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to tourism activities and for ensuring effective marketing of indigenous products. The London-based organisers selected Kerala RTM as a joint winner along with Eswatini, a land-locked country in Southern Africa, which is noted for the eco-friendly Ngwenya Glass, says a release issued by Kerala Tourism.

“This international award reflects the universal appeal of the Responsible Tourism projects that Kerala implemented, thereby setting a viable model for the rest of India as well as other countries,” said Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas. The crux of this model is that it helps conserve nature, as well as tangible and intangible heritage, while bringing substantial benefits to local communities, he added.

The Kerala RT Mission has been implementing women-friendly tourism projects in the State with the support of UN Women, the UN organisation dedicated to gender equality and women empowerment. This is the second time that Kerala RTM is getting the Responsible Tourism Global Award.

Its Water-STREET project implemented at Maravanthuruthu in Kottayam district got the honour last year. With this award, RTM registers hat-trick this year as it had earlier got two other prestigious awards — ‘Gold’ award of the Government of India and Gold award of the ICRT. Around 25,000 households benefit from RT Mission activities in the State.

The award jury recognised the work of the RTM in promoting the ethnic and traditional foods of each locality through tourism, providing authentic local food experiences enjoyed in local homes for tourists, besides generating additional income for the local communities. The RTM’s activities such as women-friendly tourism project, experiencing ethnic cuisine project, experiential tourism packages, marketing of products including local handicrafts, training for local community and other projects being implemented in association with local self government institutions were considered for the award.

The Global Responsible Tourism Awards, which cater to Africa, India and Latin America regions, were given in six categories including the best for tackling plastic waste, best for meaningful connections, best for local sourcing, food and craft, addressing climate change, best for diversity and inclusion, and the best for nature-positive tourism..

Correct Answer :   Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen took his 17th race victory of the season as the Dutchman dominated the rest of the field yet again to win the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix by over eight seconds.

Red Bull’s newly-crowned triple world champion put in another perfect display as he capped off another faultless weekend by taking pole position in qualifying, winning the sprint race and then coming home in P1 during Sunday’s (5th Nov 2023) Grand Prix.

The drama at Interlagos began before the race even started as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed during the formation lap. As he tried to warm up his tyres, his car suffered a huge fault which sent the Monegasque national straight into the barriers after which he was unable to continue.

It didn’t take too much longer for the next incident to occur either, as the red flag came out following a huge opening corner collision between a number of cars. Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen were thrown into the barriers whilst Daniel Ricciardo and Oscar Piastri were forced to pit and resumed a lap down after the restart.

From there, it proved to be the Verstappen show as he defended once from a Lando Norris advance before pulling away to win by a sizeable margin. Norris himself finished in P2 as his recent great form continues, whilst Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso rounded out the podium positions.

The veteran Spaniard and Sergio Perez had an almighty battle across the final few laps before the Aston Martin driver pipped his on track rival on the line at the death.

Perez, Lance Stroll, Carlos Sainz, Pierre Gasly, Lewis Hamilton, Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon all picked up points as the Sao Paulo faithful enjoyed their latest home race.

Correct Answer :   Determine the abundance of Earth-sized planets and their orbits

A system of seven sweltering planets was recently revealed by the continued study of data from NASA’s retired Kepler space telescope.

About Kepler Space Telescope :

* It was NASA’s first planet-hunting mission, assigned to search a portion of the Milky Way galaxy for Earth-sized planets orbiting stars outside our solar system.
It was launched on March 6, 2009.

* The spacecraft was named after the famed German astronomer Johannes Kepler (1571-1630).

* Its scientific goals included determining the abundance of earth-sized planets and the distribution of sizes and shapes of their orbits, estimating the number of planets in multiple-star systems, and determining the properties of stars that have planetary systems.

* In December 2011, NASA announced that Kepler had found its first planet, Kepler-22b, in the habitable zone of a star.

* On October 30, 2018, after nine years in deep space collecting data, NASA announced that Kepler had run out of fuel. The spacecraft was retired in its current, safe orbit, away from Earth.

* Kepler left behind a legacy of more than 2,600 planet discoveries from outside our solar system, many of which could be promising places for life.

Features :

* Kepler detected planets by observing transits, or tiny dips in the brightness of a star that occur when a planet crosses in front of the star.

* The spacecraft was basically a single instrument - a specially designed 3-foot (1-meter) diameter aperture telescope and image sensor array – with a spacecraft built around it.

* The diameter of the telescope’s mirror was 4 feet, 7 inches (1.4 meters), making it one of the largest mirrors beyond Earth’s orbit..
