Noted poet and litterateur Prof Ramdarash Mishra will be awarded the prestigious Saraswati Samman, 2021, for his collection of poems ‘Mein to Yahan Hun’, the KK Birla Foundation announced in a statement on Monday(4th Apr 2022).
 
Instituted in 1991, Saraswati Samman is one of the most prestigious literary awards in the country. It is given every year to an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language by an Indian citizen and published within the last 10 years. It carries a citation, a plaque, and a cash prize of ₹15 lakhs. The recipient is chosen by a selection committee, whose current head is Dr Subhash C Kashyap, former secretary-general of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
 
Born in Dumri village in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district on August 15, 1924, Mishra has excelled in different branches of Hindi literature. In a career spanning decades, the 98-year-old has to his credit 32 collections of poems, 15 novels, 30 short-story collections, 15 books of literary criticism, four collections of essays, travelogues, and several memoirs. He has also served as an important member of different Hindi consultative committees in various ministries and retired as a professor from the Hindi department of the University of Delhi..

The prestigious 12th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2022 began in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday(6th Apr 2022).
 
The 12-day tournament will witness 28 teams vie for top honours.
 
In its previous edition, the tournament was won by Hockey Punjab after they beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey in a thrilling shootout while Hockey Karnataka finished third having beaten Hockey Maharashtra 5-2 in the third/fourth placing match.
 
This year, the title defenders Hockey Punjab are grouped in Pool A along with Hockey Rajasthan and Delhi Hockey. In Pool B, Uttar Pradesh Hockey will battle it out against Telangana Hockey and Chhattisgarh Hockey to make the Quarterfinals while in Pool C Hockey Karnataka will take on Hockey Andhra Pradesh and Hockey Uttarakhand. In Pool D, Hockey Maharashtra will take on Hockey Bihar and Kerala Hockey.

The 9th Edition of the India-Kyrgyzstan Joint Special Forces Exercise which commenced on 25th of March at Special Forces Training School, Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh culminated on Wednesday(6th Apr 2022).
 
Over the past two weeks, Special Forces contingents from India and Kyrgyzstan shared their expertise and best practices of tactics, techniques and procedures to counter existing and emergent threats across the entire spectrum of conflict. Combat shooting, sniping, survival in mountains, hostage rescue drills and unarmed combat were practiced extensively during the Exercise.
 
Besides sharing special skills and techniques between participating Special Forces contingents, the joint training further strengthened the existing bond between India and Kyrgyzstan that has fostered over years of mutual respect for strategic autonomy, democratic values and zero tolerance for terrorism.

Union Bank of India has launched its super-app named "UnionNXT" and digital transformation project SAMBHAV, with an investment outlay of around Rs 1,000 crore for the current financial year 2022-23 (FY23). A banking super-app essentially combines a number of services, such as payments, online shopping, bill payments, recharges, investment, loans, and fund transfer, on a single platform. UBI’s super-apps is similar to the super-apps by other large lenders such as State Bank of India’s Yono, Bank of Baroda’s Bob world and HDFC Bank’s PayZapp and ICICI Bank’s iMobile.

India's economy is likely to grow 7.5% in FY23 and 8% in FY24, supported by increased public investment in infrastructure and a pickup in private investment, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on Wednesday. India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) likely grew 8.9% in FY22, it said.
 
In its Asian Development Outlook 2022, the Manila-based multilateral lender said uncertain global economic conditions, renewed Covid-19 outbreaks and new variants, monetary policy tightening in the US, and unexpected and sharp rises in commodity prices were key risks to the outlook.
