In Maharashtra, the state cabinet 8th Nov 2023 approved the state's first export promotion policy designed to boost exports. According to a statement from Chief Minister's Office, the policy will be implemented till 2027-28 and it is expected to generate an investment of approximately Rs. 25 thousand crores in the state.

This policy will benefit about 5000 industries in the state, and also create 40000 employment opportunities and help increase the exports of the state by up to 14%. This policy includes setting up export centers at the district level by promoting export-oriented industries.

Another decision to appoint an empowered committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister to effectively implement the scheme for the upliftment of Dhangar society was also taken in the cabinet meeting.

The cabinet today (8th Nov 2023) also decided to set up modern Orange processing centers at 5 places in Vidarbha. The move aims to enable the orange growers to get the right price and send the right quality of oranges to the country and abroad.

Senior bureaucrat Hitesh Kumar S Makwana has been appointed as Surveyor General of India as part of a senior-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre on Monday (6th Nov 2023).

Makwana, a 1995-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, is currently an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He has been appointed as the Surveyor General of India, Survey of India, Department of Science and Technology in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary by keeping the recruitment rules for the post in abeyance, an order issued by the Personnel Ministry said.

Abhishek Singh, Chief Executive Officer of National e-Governance Division, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has now been appointed as Additional Secretary in the ministry.

The officer will continue to hold the additional charge of the post of Chief Executive Officer, Karmayogi Bharat, it said.

Niraj Verma, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will be Administrator, Universal Service Obligation Fund in the Department of Telecommunications, the order said.

Ritvik Ranjanam Pandey, a 1998-batch IAS officer of Karnataka cadre, has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty for Advance Cell of 16th Finance Commission, Department of Economic Affairs, it said.

Senior IAS officer Anurag Agarwal has been appointed as Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Pallavi Jain Govil, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, will be the Director General of Hydrocarbons, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Rupinder Brar will be the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Coal, Deepti Gaur Mukerjee has been appointed as Additional Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Sudeep Jain named Additional Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Amit Kumar Ghosh will be Additional Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Indian Coast Guard ship 'Sangram' was decommissioned on Wednesday (8th Nov 2023) with full honours in a traditional armed force ceremony held at Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) jetty, Goa.

Inspector General AK Harbola, TM Commander Coast Guard Region (North West), was the Chief Guest and DIG K Balasubramaniam, TM (Retd), was the Guest of Honour for the ceremony.

"As the sun disappeared over the horizon on 08 Nov, in a traditional armed force ceremony held at MPA jetty, Goa. India Coast Guard Ship Sangram decommissioned with full honours. Chief Guest of ceremony was IG AK Harbola,TM,COMCG(NW) & Guest of Honour DIG K Balasubramaniam,TM(Retd)," the Indian Coast Gaurd said in a post on X.

On November 4, India Coast Guard Ship Samar was decommissioned with full honours at the India Coast Guard Jetty in Kochi.

The Chief Guest of the Ceremony was Additional Director General S Paramesh, PTM, TM, in the presence of Guest of Honour DG Dr P Paleri, PTM, TM (Retd).

The ship was commissioned on February 14, 1996, at Goa by the then Prime Minister of India, PV Narashimha Rao and was based at Mumbai under the operational command of Commander Coast Guard Region (West). Further, the ship was rebased at Kochi in 2009, according to a press release by the Indian Coast Guard.

Samar, meaning "battle," is a projection of Indian Coast Guard's will and commitment "to strive and protect" the maritime interests of the nation.

Built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Ltd, the ship boasts of the unique distinction of being the first indigenously constructed vessel of The Indian Coast Guard with a gross displacement of more than 1800 gross tonnage, a triumph for the Indian shipbuilding industry, the release stated..

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman today (7th Nov 2023) launched 12 Goods and Services Tax (GST) Seva Kendras at Gyandham School, Vapi, in Gujarat.

The Union Finance Minister also gave away prizes to 6 customers with a cheque award of Rs 10 lakh to who participated in Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar scheme. The winners had uploaded their valid GST bills on the app after making a purchase.

Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said these state-of-the-art centres will help in increasing the Ease of Doing Business in the country. While congratulating Gujarat in taking lead in establishing such centres, the Finance Minister said it will prove to be a role model for other states to follow. The Finance Minister of Gujarat, Shri Kanubhai Desai, was present on the occasion along with Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) besides senior officials of the GST department.

Speaking about the Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar scheme, the Finance Minister said that the common citizen of the country can make a valuable contribution to the development of the nation by asking for a bill from the trader or shopkeeper while making a purchase. It is the right of the consumer to take the bill and it is the duty of the trader-shopkeeper to pay the bill, Smt. Sitharaman added.

The Finance Minister said that such incentives will encourage more and more people to take bills and upload bills on the portal for participate in the scheme.

Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar (MBMA) is a scheme was launched by the CBIC on 1st Sept. 2023 to promote the culture of generating bills/invoices during sale purchase transactions. A campaign in support of the MBMA scheme to create awareness among the people is already going on.

State Finance Minister Shri Kanubhai Desai thanked the Union Finance Minister for gifting the GST Seva Kendra to Vapi on the occasion of Diwali and said when GST was implemented, many concerns were expressed but by taking the views of all the members of the GST Council in every state, the Union Finance Minister, as the chairperson of the GST Council, has always given priority to the interests of the people.

“It was the dream of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi that the dream, ‘One Nation, One Tax' has now come true. Due to its business friendly policies, Gujarat has now become the growth engine of the country’s economy. The campaign Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar has been a great success,” he said.

The 12 GST Seva Kendras opened today are located at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Godhra, Vapi, Mehsana, Palanpur, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Gandhidham.
