Chhattisgarh received three national awards for its outstanding execution of the Ayushman Bharat scheme under the 'big states' category, achieving 100 per cent utilisation of allocated funds and ensuring 90 per cent of families possess an Ayushman card.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday (26th Sep 2023) cleared the appointment of K N Madhusoodanan as a part-time chairman of Kerala-based Dhanlaxmi Bank.

This comes after a period of 21 months during which the company was without a chairman, following the resignation of G Subramonia Iyer in December 2021 for personal reasons.

Madhusoodanan has been an independent director with the bank since 2022. This appointment also follows the RBI's rejection of a proposal to appoint G Rajagopalan Nair as its part-time chairman. Nair has also been an independent director with the bank since August 2020.

Madhusoodanan is a successful entrepreneur with business interests in diverse fields. He is the managing director of various private limited companies, including those in the MSME sector.

Madhusoodanan is also involved in social service activities aimed at improving the economic conditions of socially and economically disadvantaged individuals in rural areas. He is associated with social service organisations in Kerala.

Japanese apparel retailer "Uniqlo" has appointed Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif as its first brand ambassador in India as and attempts to woo affluent shoppers and plans to add to more stores.

The 40-year-old actor will be seen in Uniqlo's campaign films across digital and offline channels, the retailer said on Tuesday. Kaif joins the ranks of tennis star Roger Federer, who was appointed as Uniqlo's global brand ambassador in 2018.

The one-year partnership will see the Bollywood actor endorse the brand’s Fall-Winter 2023 campaign, which will encompass all media channels including print, digital and outdoor, as well as in-store promotional material.

Uniqlo, which made its India debut in 2019, has 10 stores in the country at present and two more in the pipeline. Most of them are located in Delhi-NCR, with one each in Lucknow, Chandigarh, and Punjab’s Zirakpur. It is set to open stores in Mumbai. The brand draws consumers across age groups with its casual clothing lines.

Kaif said, "Uniqlo has been my go-to brand for daily essentials and over the years I have admired how functional and innovative their products are. Their simple, high-quality clothing is also very versatile, and perfect to build one’s everyday wardrobe with," she said. Kaif will next be seen in Bollywood film Tiger 3, scheduled for Diwali.

“We are extremely pleased to have Katrina Kaif join us as Uniqlo’s first brand endorser in India," said Tomohiko Sei, chief executive officer, Uniqlo India.

Uniqlo is part of Japan’s largest fashion group Fast Retailing. It is the largest of eight brands in the group, the others being GU, Theory, PLST Comptoir des Cotonniers, Princesse tam.tam, J Brand and Helmut Lan.

In FY22, Uniqlo India’s income surged 64% from the previous year to ₹391 crore, according to data from financial intelligence platform Tofler. The retailer is yet to disclose its FY23 financials..

* Intrauterine devices (IUDs) : These devices are inserted into the uterus where they release either a copper component or a small amount of a hormone (Levnorgesterol) to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg.

* Emergency contraception : It is possible to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or if contraception has failed, either with a pill or with an IUD. There is a five-day window for this.

* Condoms : Male condoms sheath a penis. Female condoms fit loosely inside a vagina. Both form a barrier that prevent sperm and egg from meeting.

* Sterilization : Considered a permanent method that blocks sperm in men and eggs in women. Voluntary and informed choice is essential.

* Lactational amenorrhea method : A temporary method of contraception for new mothers whose monthly bleeding has not returned. During this period, eggs are not released and so pregnancy cannot occur.

The Central government has extended the term of RBI deputy governor M Rajeshwar Rao for a period of one year, the Reserve Bank said in a statement on Tuesday (26th Sep 2023).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the “re-appointment of M Rajeshwar Rao as Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank for a period of one year with effect from October 9, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the circular read.

He was appointed as Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank in October 2020 for a period of three years and was assigned the responsibility of financial regulation. Prior to that, he was the chief general manager of the financial markets operations department.

Rao was appointed as the executive director in November, 2016  and was looking after the department of statistics and information management, financial markets operation department and international department. Prior to this, he was the chief general manager of the financial markets operations department.

As a career central banker, Rao has exposure to various aspects of the RBI's functioning. He has previously held the charge of the Risk Monitoring Department. He has also worked as the Banking Ombudsman in New Delhi and in the Reserve Bank's regional offices in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai and the national capital.

Rao joined the Reserve Bank in 1984 has a bachelor degree in economics and is an Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Cochin..

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday (24th Sep 2023) announced an increase in honorariums and retirement benefits for kotwars.

Addressing a state-level convention of kotwars here, the chief minister announced that the government would provide Rs 1 lakh to kotwars at the time of their retirement.

Kotwars are appointed at the village level to assist revenue officials and provide them with information.

Chouhan said kotwars, who do not own land, will get Rs 8,000 per month instead of the earlier Rs 4,000, while those with less than 3 acres of land will get Rs 2,000, and those owning service land up to 7.5 acres will receive Rs 1,200 and those with 7.5 acres to 10 acres will get Rs 1,000 per month.

Apart from this, their annual income will be increased by Rs 500 every year, he said.

Terming kotwars as the backbone of the revenue administration, Chouhan said the information shared by them is important while dealing with calamities.

He further said that kotwars will get the benefit of health insurance and will be provided CUG SIM cards and recharge for their mobile phones..
