The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) will soon have a fourth whole-time member (WTM) as the government cleared the appointment of Ananth Narayan Gopalkrishnan, Associate Professor, SP Jain Institute of Management & Research.
 
The market regulator has been operating with at least one vacancy for the position of WTM since November 2021. Like in the case of most WTMs, Narayan has been appointed for an initial period of three years.
 
He will join Sebi WTMs SK Mohanty, Ashwani Bhatia and Ananta Barua. Bhatia, previously the managing director of state-owned State Bank of India (SBI), assumed charge at Sebi in June; his appointment was cleared in March.
 
The market regulator would now have two bankers as WTMs. Prior to joining SP Jain, Narayan was the Regional Head of Financial Markets for ASEAN and South Asia at Standard Chartered Bank.

He has strong expertise in foreign currency, interest rates, derivatives and debt capital markets. Narayan has also worked with Deutsche Bank and Citibank..

Veteran RJD leader "Awadh Bihari Chaudhary" was on Friday(26th Aug 2022) unanimously elected as Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Thursday(25th August 2022) appointed distinguished scientist, Dr Samir V Kamat, as chairman.
 
Kamat, who is Director General, Naval Systems & Materials (NS&M), will succeed G Satheesh Reddy, who has been named as scientific adviser to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, according to a Personnel Ministry order. Reddy was appointed as DRDO chief in August 2018 for two years. He was given two years' extension in the post in August 2020.
 
The defence organisation is the research and development wing of the Ministry of Defence.
 
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Kamat's appointment from the date of his assumption of charge till he attains the age of 60 years.
 
He obtained B Tech. (Hons) in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT-Kharagpur in 1985 and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Ohio State University in 1988.
 
He joined DRDO at DMRL, Hyderabad, in 1989. He took over as the director of the lab in 2015. Kamat assumed charge as NS&M Director in 2017.

Former Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian was on Thursday(25th August 2022) appointed as the Executive Director for India at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), an official order said. 
 
Subramanian's term will begin from November and will continue for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, by curtailing the tenure of eminent economist Surjit S Bhalla as ED (India), IMF up to 31 October, 2022.
 
Bhalla was appointed as the Executive Director for India on the board of the IMF in 2019. He succeeded former RBI deputy governor Subir Gokarn, who died in the US on 30 July after a brief illness.
 
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Professor (Finance), Indian School of Business and former Chief Economic Adviser to the post of Executive Director (India) at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), w.e.f 01.11.2022 for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier by curtailing the tenure of Dr. Surjit S. The first 3D-printed post office in India will soon come up in Karnataka's capital Bengaluru.
 
The new post office building in Cambridge Layout in Halasuru will be built using 3D printing and is likely to be completed within the next month.
 
3D printed post office : The Post Office building is being constructed by L&T, which is the only company currently in India utilising 3D printing technology for construction.
 
According to Chief Post Master General of the Karnataka Circle, S Rajendra Kumar, 3D printing can significantly reduce the cost and expedite construction which would otherwise take months to complete.
 
3D printing of the new post office which will be a three-storied building has been given clearances by the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and IIT-Madras.
 
India's first 3D-printed building : In December 2020, L&T had successfully 3D-printed a 700 sq feet building (ground plus first floor) with reinforcement, for the first time in India.
 
Using a fully automated 3D printer, L&T 3D printed the building at their facility in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu with a special, in-house developed concrete mix, using indigenously available regular construction materials..
