The Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a general allocation of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) equivalent to US $650 billion (about SDR 456 billion) on August 2, 2021, to boost global liquidity.
 
“This is a historic decision – the largest SDR allocation in the history of the IMF and a shot in the arm for the global economy at a time of unprecedented crisis. The SDR allocation will benefit all members, address the long-term global need for reserves, build confidence, and foster the resilience and stability of the global economy. It will particularly help our most vulnerable countries struggling to cope with the impact of the COVID-19 crisis,” IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has launched seven new academic programmes to cater to the rising demand for new-age technologies, the Department of Science and Technology said on Monday(02-08-2021). The seven new programmes are in select areas of engineering, architecture, economics and management along with specialisation in data science and artificial intelligence.
 
"Their launch shows that we are on to breaking some of the silos that we have historically created," Mr Sharma said. The programmes, which include six postgraduate degree programmes and one five-year integrated programme, would be offered to students from the next autumn session (2021-2022). The entire bunch comprises MTech (Artificial Intelligence) and MTech (Data Science) under the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Data Science (CAIDS), MDes (Industrial Design), and MIM (Masters in Innovation Management) under the Department of Design.

The Centre has rushed a multi-disciplinary team to Maharashtra to monitor the Zika virus situation and support the State Government in the management of the virus. A case of Zika has been reported in Pune district recently. Health Ministry said, the three-member Central team consists of a public health expert from the Office of Regional Director, Pune, a gynecologist from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi and an entomologist from National Institute of Malaria Research, ICMR, New Delhi.
 
The team will work closely with the State Health Department and take a stock of the situation on ground. They will assess whether the Union Health Ministry’s Action Plan for Zika Management is being implemented and recommend necessary public health interventions for Zika management in the state.

Indian Bank on Monday(02-08-2021) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) – an initiative of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay – for extending exclusive credit facility to Start-ups and MSMEs.
 
SINE, IIT, Bombay is the forerunner in setting up joint R&D with industries and supporting start-up incubation. SINE, IIT, Bombay provides support to the MSME sector by providing joint research and development arrangements and technical and financial support for incubation and acceleration of high-end technology products. The Bank will extend loans of up to 50 crore rupees to these start-ups for their working capital requirements or purchase of machinery and equipment. As the name goes, this initiative, which is mutually beneficial for both Bank and IIT, Bombay, will be the spring board for start-ups to realise their ambitions.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indian Bank  Padmaja Chunduru highlighted the start-ups’ need to be suitably counselled about the significance of equity and debt funding.

Mr. Modi said, it is an effort on part of the Culture Ministry to have a maximum number of Indians singing the National Anthem together.
 
Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy hoped that Indians across the world will participate in this event and also called on maximum participation from the youth.
