Department of Posts, as part of its ongoing initiatives to create an export ecosystem for e-commerce in the country, entered into an agreement with Bigfoot Retail Solution Pvt Ltd (Shiprocket), one of the leading e-commerce enablement platforms.

The collaboration aims to enhance e-commerce exports by leveraging India Post’s extensive presence and reliable shipping solutions.

The agreement was signed today in New Delhi in the presence of Shri Alok Sharma, Director General Postal Services, Chief Postmaster General Delhi Ms Manju Kumar and Shri Saahil Goel, CEO, Shiprocket, marking a significant milestone in India’s cross border e-commerce landscape.

Speaking at the event, Shri Alok Sharma, Director General Postal Services shared, “India Post has taken a series of steps in the recent past like expansion of Foreign Post Offices, introduction of Postal Bill of Export to enable commercial exports through post offices, launch of a competitive International Tracked Packet Service and setting up of Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras (DNKs) across the country.”

“The online order processing, export documentation, compliances and Customs clearance has been made easy through electronic Postal Bill of Export (PBE) which can be filed on DNK portal. Integration of DNK portal with different agencies and e-marketplace will benefit the artisans, craftsmen and SME sellers from the remotest areas of the country. As on date more than 600 DNKs have been made operational,” Shri Sharma added.

This agreement will lead to technical integration between Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra and Shiprocket and enable India based sellers, using Shiprocket, to directly generate e-PBE and shipping labels from Shiprocket platform itself. The exporters can avail packaging, label printing, pickup facility and induct their shipments to the nearest DNK in any part of the country.

During the event, Ms Manju Kumar, CPMG Delhi, highlighted that “e-commerce has emerged as a powerful driver of economic growth and innovation and this collaboration aims to achieve the same by harnessing the extensive Post Office infrastructure and enable more small businesses on Shiprocket platform to participate as well.”

Shri Saahil Goel, CEO Shiprocket, said, “We are thrilled to extend our strategic partnership with India Post, a collaboration that is set to reshape the landscape of e-commerce and global trade for MSMEs. Together with India Post, we are committed to provide faster, more secure, and more efficient global parcel services to over 200 destinations worldwide. We aim to not only expand our reach but also reduce first-mile costs and delivery time through Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras (DNKs).”

This partnership holds immense promise as we work together with logistics aggregators and e-market place leaders to promote e-commerce exports in a digital age. The agreement is the latest addition in India Post’s export-oriented initiatives after the MoU signed with Amazon last week..

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of the Army headquarters Thal Sena Bhawan's new building in Delhi Cantonment conforming with GRIHA-IV (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) norms.

The Indian Army’s new Thal Sena Bhawan (TSB), coming up on a sprawling 39 acre site with a built-up area of 143,450 sq. m., boasts of several green measures conforming with GRIHA-IV (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) norms. It has been designed for a building life of about 100 years, and is earthquake-resistant, according to C.P. Kukreja Architects, who have been awarded the project. The building will be ready by May-June 2025.

The complex is designed to cater to the needs of 5,600 personnel, and will bring together the Indian Army Headquarters currently split in eight pockets across Delhi, including South Block, Sena Bhawan, Hutments Area, R. K. Puram, and Shankar Vihar.

“Thal Sena Bhawan adheres to GRIHA-IV specifications and criteria. For instance, the topsoil of the entire site will be preserved, and its fertility will be maintained during the construction phase. This preserved soil will then be used for landscaping the area after construction,”

The national rating system, GRIHA, evaluates the environmental performance of a building holistically over its entire life cycle. The construction of the TSB commenced in January 2023, and is due to finish in 27 months at a cost of ₹832 crore, officials had stated.

In the construction phase, transplantation of 476 trees is being taken up, and compensatory planting of over 5,000 trees will increase green cover.

Elaborating on some of the measures, an Army official said there would be a grid interactive solar photo-voltaic system , sensor-based LED lighting, and chargers for electric vehicles in parking areas. A building management system will be in place for energy monitoring, temperature control and ventilation, with high efficiency chillers.

“The complex will have a sewage treatment plant with 400 kilo litres per day capacity, and the treated water will be used for flushing and arboriculture. Similarly, for solid waste management, there will be a compost plant of 500 kg capacity per day for use in the arboriculture and the maintenance of green spaces,” one official said.

Rain water harvesting will be undertaken and an open car parking on green paver blocks will augment recharge of ground water. The official said fly ash, and treated water from a sewage treatment plant, is being used in the construction phase.

C.P. Kukreja Architects won the bid through a national design competition, and the design of the complex was unveiled by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on January 17, 2022.

On the design, the firm said in its written responses that it had been inspired by the crest of the Indian Army, of two swords held together as a symbol of defence, headed by the four-headed Lion Capital depicting the four tenets of power, courage, pride, and confidence. “Taking inspiration from the different elements that represent the courage and strength of our Army and incorporating it into the campus’ design, we hope that the project is an inspiration for future institutions of this nature,” Dikshu Kukreja, managing principal of C.P. Kukreja Architects, said.

The new building will feature a ground plus seven-storey main office complex, a facility zone, an infrastructure complex, single men’s living accommodation, parking space for 3,000 vehicles, an engineering services area, and landscaping. The facilities zone will include a food court, a crèche, a gym, a canteen, and a health centre..
