After a prolonged battle with COVID, legendary Bengali singer "Sandhya Mukherjee", who had refused to accept the Padma award last month, died on Tuesday(15th Feb 2022) evening following a massive "cardiac arrest". She was hospitalized on January 27 and was recovering after prolonged illness.
 
Sandhya Gupta (Mukherjee) suffered a sudden "cardiac arrest" at around 7:30 pm because of an irregular heart beat and could not be revived. The hospital deeply mourns the passing away of the legendary singer,” a medical bulletin issued by the private hospital in Kolkata where Mukherjee breathed her last, said.
 
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, condoled the death of Sandhya Mukherjee, and said that “the death of the veteran singer is “irreparable loss” to the world..

Finance Minister "Nirmala Sitharaman" on Friday(11th Feb 2022) launched the first colour souvenir coin on 'Panchtantra' on the occasion of 17th foundation day of Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL).
 
The finance minister in her address stressed on upskilling and acquiring new skills, and upgradation to meet the technology driven economy.
 
Further, she emphasized on ramping up the quality of products and to brand SPMCIL as lead producers of currency and other sovereign products.
 
The minister was also joined by Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth and other senior officials of the ministry, a finance ministry statement said.

With a view to provide further relief to consumers and to keep in check any further rise in the prices of domestic edible oils, the Centre has reduced the agri-cess for Crude Palm Oil from 7.5 percent to 5 percent. The current basic rate of import duty of zero per cent on Crude Palm Oil, Crude Soyabean oil, and Crude Sunflower Oil up to the 30th of September this year. This will give relief to consumers and prevent a further rise in the price of domestic edible oils.
 
The 12.5 percent import duty on refined palm oils, 17.5 percent on refined soyabean oil, and 17.5 percent on refined sunflower oil will continue in effect until September 30, 2022. Furthermore, under the Essential Commodities Act of 1955, the government has set stock limit levels on edible oils and oilseeds up to June 30th of this year.

Every year, February 15th is observed as the International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) to highlight the danger and impact of this deadly disease among children. More than 4 lakh children and adolescents below the age of 20 years are diagnosed with cancer every year. While the chances of their survival are close to 80 per cent in some high-income countries, the rate of survival for such patients from low-income countries is as low as 20 per cent.
 
As per the data of a 2017 study by the Indian Journal of Medical and Pediatric Oncology, nearly 50,000 children, adolescents in India between the age group of 0 and 19 are likely to succumb to this illness every year. Cancer is the 9th most common cause of death among children in the country.
 
The International Childhood Cancer Day was first observed in 2002 by Childhood Cancer International (CCI), a network of over 170 organisations, cancer outreach programs, cancer institutes and paediatric cancer survivor organisations. ICCD efforts to make the finest medical and psychological treatment available to children suffering from cancer regardless of the limitation of their location, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background.
 
SIGNIFICANCE : Observed on February 15 every year, the International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) is marked as a day to raise awareness about cancer among children and to express support for adolescents, children who are either suffering from cancer or have survived the ailment, and their families.
 
INTERNATIONAL CHILDHOOD CANCER DAY 2022 THEME : As part of the three campaigns launched in 2021 for ICCD, the theme for this year is ‘Better Survival’ is achievable #throughyourhands. It aims to pay tribute to the efforts of the medical team and health care workers for bringing positive impact to the lives of children and adolescents with cancer and vice versa. The theme is aligned with the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC). Last year, ICCD was commemorated under the theme of #throughourhands to celebrate the bravery, courage, and resiliency of children and adolescents with cancer.
